dear mom, You were quite the naturalist. You knew the name of every bird. I loved your wild/pet snake in the compost pile. You showed me how to grow sprouts in the window. you told me to stay away from processed foods and you taught me how to cook good foods- thank you. Your polish breads were always the best. You never taught me Polish. Ah, well i'll probably never get over there to visit anyway. Well, rest in peace ol' buddy. Your son, Ronald. P. S. I forgot the fish. When i would bring a day's catch home, as macho as i am i just never appreciated blood and guts. But you would always clean and cook /
'em. Deidrah and Kristi "heped" They would get the tooth brush and clean the teeth. These kinds of memories of you will always be special.

I am the oldest grandchild of Sophie and have many good memories of celebrating Easter with her and my family. I am also so proud of the many ribbons she won at the Berlin Fair for her many canned goods. Two months ago, I lost my full-time office job due to the bad economy. The one good thing about it was that I was able to spend a bit more time with Grandma. I enjoyed giving her a manicure and helping her write her Christmas cards. I love you and will really miss you Grandma. With love from your Granddaughter, Karen Downing

Sophie was our neighbor for six years until we recently moved a year ago she loved coming to our gatherings and parties .She enjoyed our picnics in our backyard and danced at my daughter Crystal's sweet sixteen Party along with Joey,Florence and Armand. She enjoyed a good party. She was always full of energy and spunk. I always liked to bring over a Puerto Rican traditional dish boiled green bananas with chicken gizzards. She loved them. I will always think of her when I make it. Sophie you will be missed. Florence and Armand you gave your all to take care of her You are a great loving daughter Florence and know now that she is at peace. We Love you all. Walter, Janet,Gabriel,Crystal, and Melody Rivera

Dear Friends and Family of Sophie,
Florence and Armand Linder have blessed me with friendship for several years now, and in social and church things, Sophie was often there and always charmed. We prayed in the light of Holiday candles at her home, and laughed at happy moments at other events. We shared secrets about making butter lambs, a favorite in my Mother's family as well!

My own Grandmother on my Father's side, was a tiny dolly, like Sophie, and long passed, so Sophie won me instantly.
In Kristi's description of her special moments with her Grandmother, the words were so like my own, and how special in memory alive, till this day, so many years later.

Sophie was a spirit and a May born!

Such people always stay happily alive in memory, and bring a tiny bit of special grace, forever.

God bless all of you at this special time!

Rebecca posing with our butter lamb, Easter 2008

As a child, I was very lucky to have a gramma like Sophie. I looked forward to going to her house for sleepovers. Every night, she would tell me stories about her childhood, and how different things were. I would ask to hear my favorites over and over, and she loved to tell them. We would also spend time in her garden, which in its day, was huge. When the crop came in, I would help her can her veggies and make jellies. Everyone loved her canned foods. She was a big winner at the fair, and friends and family were thrilled when she brought her prize winning foods to a party.
We spent a lot of time enjoying nature in her yard as well. We would catch fireflies, listen to the Bob-o-links, and sit on the covered front porch during thunderstorms.
Gramma will always have a place of honor at the Easter dinner table. She taught me how to make her famous butter lambs (which are quite a conversation piece for those who experience them the first time). I will carry on her butter lamb tradition and teach my daughter so Sophie's beautiful work and spirit will live on for generations to come.

I love you Gramma.
Goodbye.
Kristi
