Paul M. Ewing

Paul M. Ewing, 92, of South Windsor, passed away on April 23, 2019. His long life was devoted to service - to his country, his ministry and his family. Starting life as the fifth child of a tenant farmer, he began his education at the College of Idaho, and continued at Syracuse University (BA), Boston University (MDiv) and the New York School of Theology (DDiv). He joined the Air Force during the Korean War, studying Russian at Syracuse University, where he met and fell in love with his wife-to-be, Jeanne. Soon afterward they married and relocated to England, where he translated Russian for the Air Force and coached the unit's baseball team.Paul's life's work as a Methodist minister began after their return. His broad curiosity and passion for life fed his unwavering dedication to churches in Connecticut and Long Island, NY. Paul thrived on caring for everyone's spiritual well-being, regardless of what situation life had lead them to. After practicing ministry for over 35 years, he continued counseling people in need well into his retirement.Paul also enjoyed a lifelong interest in art, particularly silk screening, as well as his other top passions: baseball and peanut butter. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeanne M. Ewing who relates, "What I will miss most is having Paul at my side each day and feeling his generous hugs, his arms wrapped around my shoulders. Our shared solid and dependable love allowed us to meet the challenges, sorrows and joys of our life together." Paul will also be remembered by their five children, Brent Ewing, his wife Kelly, and sons Jordan and Seth of Seattle, WA; Todd Ewing of Ellsworth, ME; Julie McNeal and her husband, Beacher of Andover, CT; Curtis Ewing, his wife, Debbie and children Ilima and Nathaniel of Vallejo, CA; and Melissa Byrne and her husband, Jim of Enfield, CT. A memorial service will be held June 21st at 10 am - Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road – South Windsor, CT.
