Janice Crowe Obituary

Janice (Kacmarcik) Crowe, 76, beloved wife of Edward J. Crowe, passed away on Saturday, February 27th at their home in Avon. Jan was born on March 29, 1944 in Hartford to the late Harry and Catherine Kacmarcik. She was raised in Avon, and was in the first class to go through all four years at Avon High School after it was built, graduating in 1962. She had a B.S. from CCSC with a major in math and a minor in biology. Jan and Ed were married in 1967 and lived in Simsbury for 47 years. Jan taught math at Simsbury High School, and later worked in the library at Tootin' Hills School in West Simsbury. She loved working with children, creating elaborate programs and displays to encourage the children's interest in reading. She also taught Junior High math at the Holy Cross School in New Britain, where she headed a Mathcounts Team for yearly competitions, and also created scenery for Holy Cross's yearly fundraiser (play?) productions. Before retiring, Jan also worked for the Simsbury Public Library in the circulation department, where she loved being with good people and good books. Jan was a member of the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Unionville, and also a member of the Farmington Woods Cooperative Garden, where she enjoyed being in nature and loved tending the plants. She is survived by her husband, Edward J. Crowe, their son Steven Crowe of Waltham, MA, and their daughter Maureen Crowe of Colchester. She is also survived by her two sisters, Carol Griffin of Avon, and Ann Hodges of Burlington, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jan can be made to the Closer to Free Fund, and sent to Closer to Free Fund, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508. Please include Jan's name on the memo line. Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc. To send online condolences to the family, please visit www.ahernfuneralhome.com.

Ed and Family. I am so sorry to Jan's passing. She was a good woman and someone I always looked forward to talking to. She would always make me laugh with her honesty and saying it like it is. She was a very sincere and trustworthy friend and neighbor . We always would offer the sign of peace from a distance. She will be missed here on earth but we will see each other again. I'll miss you Jan. Rest in Peace. Be strong Ed ! I miss you
