Shirley A. (Swartz) Carter, 93, of Suffield and formerly of Windsor Locks, beloved wife of the late Robert D. Carter, passed away, Friday, October 31, 2025. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Stanley and Amy Swartz, she was raised in Simsbury and graduated from Simsbury High School. Shirley was employed by EASCO Tool for many years before retiring to care for her husband. She moved to Windsor Locks in 1959 and to Suffield twenty years ago. Her life was spent caring for her family. She leaves her children Michael Carter of Enfield, Stephen Carter and his wife Robin of Stafford, Victoria Fitzgerald and her husband Mark of Enfield, Timothy Carter of Suffield and Todd Carter and his wife Dennia of Agawam, MA; grandchildren Jennifer Scott, Stephen Carter, Jr., Kelly Berrouard, Billy Fitzgerald, Travis Carter, Kaitlyn Coro, Briana Carter, Ana Carter, and MacKenzie Carter; and greatgrandchildren William, Charlotte, Everett, Elliott, Carter, Kaylie, Riley, and Abigail. Shirley's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Suffield House for the amazing care they gave our mother. Her family will receive friends Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 10-11 am at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Avenue, Poquonock section of Windsor, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM at the funeral home.
