Diane Braue Carter, 80, of Hartford and formerly of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Herbert Carter, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Avery Heights in Hartford. Born in Long Beach, CA on December 3, 1944, daughter of the late Stanley Ray and Florence Adelaide (Weaver) Arrowsmith, she and her brother Steven Arrowsmith grew up in Compton and Downey, California. She graduated from Downey High School in 1962.
Diane continued her education at California State College Long Beach, from which she graduated in 1966. She found her calling in the promise of helping people, and after she married Donald Braue in 1967, she moved with him to Scranton, Pennsylvania, to support his ministry and to serve the community as a public welfare worker.
A committed activist and humanist who was dedicated to finding ways to help patients work through their challenges, she pursued a Master's Degree from the Columbia University School of Social Work, graduating with her Master of Social Work in 1972 before giving birth to her son David.
Diane married Herbert in 1983, and continued working as a psychotherapist and clinical social worker. She applied her clinical skills to a range of areas including family therapy and children's counselling at the Manchester Hospital Center for Mental Health; in group practice at Silverman and Associates in West Hartford; and in private practice in Windsor. She retired in 2013 after a fulfilling 40 year career in which she helped patients build better lives for themselves.
While living in Windsor, she was a member of the First Church in Windsor, Congregational, and more recently she had found great belonging with the community at the Universalist Church of West Hartford.
Diane was a devoted mother and grandmother, and will be lovingly remembered always by her son David, his wife Anna, and their daughters Kaela and Talia.
