CANAL WINCHESTER – Alyce Pope Carter, 94, of Canal Winchester passed away peacefully Thursday morning November 20, 2025, surrounded by her family at Optalis Assisted Living facility in Canal Winchester, Ohio.

Alyce was born in Midland, PA, on November 10, 1931, a daughter of the late Ralph and Lois Pope. Alyce graduated from Lincoln High School in Midland, PA and attended the School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio where she obtained her CNA credentials. She worked for several years at the East Liverpool City Hospital before working for the Columbiana County Community Action Agency as a Program Director. She finished her working career as a Teachers Aid for the Wellsville School District.

Alyce and her sisters Eileen, Dorothy and Elizabeth were known at First Baptist Church in Midland, PA as the gospel singing group "The Pope Sisters". They traveled to many churches throughout the east coast singing the gospel. She was last a member of the First Church of God in Columbus. She had many qualities that she will be remembered for but one that rises above them all was her hearty, loud and infectious laugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth L. Carter Sr.; two sisters Eileen Golding and Elizabeth Carter; two brothers Ralph Pope and James Pope; son-in law Hayes Taylor and two grandchildren Zane Carter and Phillip Reid Carter II.

Left to mourn her passing are her sister Dorothy James; six children Leon Carter and his wife Janice of Fort Lawn, SC, David Carter and his wife Marian of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Marva Taylor of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Marvin Quinn Carter and his wife Bernadette of Wellsville, Ohio, Montez Peachey of Blacklick, Ohio and Phillip Carter of Wellsville, Ohio; eleven grandchildren

Alisha Jeter (Brad), Casey Kuntor (Chris), Jared Carter (Heather), Rachel White (Terry), Zachary Carter (Sarah), Carman Gammage (Tre), Jeremy Carter (Krislyn), Ernest Peachey (Shelisa), Erik Peachey, Stephen Taylor and Joshua Carter; sixteen great grandchildren; God son Derrick Carter; God daughter Marveen McCuen Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
