Gregory Lauria Obituary

Gregory Vincent Lauria, 52, of East Haddam, beloved husband of Kerin (McKenney) Lauria, and father of Matthew Gregory and Joseph David, died peacefully May 21, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Greg was born in Hartford, CT. He was the son of the late Vincent Joseph and Marjorie (Hood) Lauria. He was a graduate of Cheshire High School, in Cheshire, CT, received his Bachelor's Degree from St. Michael's College in Burlington, VT and his MBA from Western New England College in Springfield, MA. He worked his way through college painting houses, was part owner and operator of a car reconditioning business, and a paint salesman for Sherwin Williams. Most recently he was Director of Insurance Sales for AAA Mid-Atlantic. He worked for AAA for 23 years ("never making the big leagues!"), and was loved and respected by those he worked with. Greg was an active member of his community, humbly volunteering his time and talents. He served on the board of finance for the Town of East Haddam became a volunteer firefighter, after 911, for The Middlefield Volunteer Fire Department, Middlefield, CT and taught adaptive skiing. His biggest passion, however, was baseball and he spent many seasons and countless hours as coach and board member for East Haddam Little League. Greg enjoyed skiing, beginning at an early age with his family, staying at his family's A-frame in Stockbridge, VT. He skied the Green, White and Rocky Mountains, ultimately, fulfilling a dream of heli-skiing in Telluride, Co! Greg loved being on the water and made many memories "fishing" with his friends (being crowned Amsten Classic Master's Division Champion!), skiing and tubing with friends and family, and spending the night in isolated coves. He took an avid interest in corvettes as a boy and owned many models over the years. He enjoyed cruising the back roads with his boys, listening to The Allman Brothers, date nights with Kerri, and teaching nephew Will to drive a stick. Though Greg had many interests and passions, the most important thing to him was family. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, son, cousin and of course, friend. His favorite times were spent watching his sons' games, meets and concerts. Always present, cheering and encouraging, watching them grow into men through their achievements. Besides his wife Kerin and sons Matt and Joe he is survived by his sister Cynthia Lauria and husband Kevin Kauff, of Edgewater, MD, his brother Jonathan Lauria and wife Sandra of Cheshire, CT, and numerous nieces and nephews; Monica, Emily, William, Michael, A.J., Stephan, Emily, Alex, Elisabeth, Christian, Jaclyne, Alyssa, Richie, Serena and Sylvie and five grand nieces and nephews. He is no doubt welcomed into heaven by his friends and family (and dogs) who have gone before him and we look forward to seeing him there again one day. Funeral services will be held Sunday June 6th at 2 p.m.at Valley Bible Church, 220 Turkey Hill Rd, Haddam. Friends may gather prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. To share memories or express condolences online please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The East Haddam Little League or The East Haddam Youth and Family Services.

I just heard the news about Greg. We spent a lot of time together freshman and sophomore year at SMC highlighted by several days at his A frame skiiing and a “memorable trip” in the Bahamas for Spring break. Although we went different ways as college progressed I continue to remember fond memories with the “Gregster”. My best to all his family and friends.

Kerri, I apologize for waiting so long to send condolences to you and your family. I didn’t hear of Greg’s passing until mid summer and was shocked and deeply saddened. It is heart warming to read all the wonderful things people have to say about Greg and I only wish I had the opportunity to know him better.
A year or so ago I met with Greg to give him some old family photos that were in my possession. His grandmother Esther Lauria was my amazing aunt and I can only imagine how proud she would be to have such a wonderful grandson. At that time Greg and I talked about the days when he and Jon would come to the Pandolfe’s Auto Parts softball games with his aunt Fran to watch his uncle Lou play. I guess he loved baseball even then as a young guy. We also talked about our mutual love of Corvettes (I’ve owned them since 1969) and agreed to try and stay in touch.
I feel awful that that didn’t happen but believe he is now talking Corvettes and baseball with God in heaven. I pray for him and your family every day.
My wife and I just purchased property in East Haddam and plan to build there. Maybe our paths will cross someday.
God bless, Joe Pandolfe

Dear Greg,

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to work at AAA. I appreciate what a genuine guy you were, and I appreciate how much working there helped me grow professionally, and personally. Not to mention the lifelong friends, and experiences I got to keep like the Rocky Mountain High says.

Best wishes in the great beyond, and I'm genuinely glad that you get to add your human experience to the Collective Consciousness bcus one thing I'll never forget is "Greg Lauria's gonna hit his numbers!" and I still use that today, so here's to your legacy, friend.

Best wishes to you & yours in all they do for a great everything, and a happy always.

Kerri, Matt and Joe - We are thinking of you and remembering Greg as always smiling, laughing and interested sharing what he knew. From the days supporting all 3 of you at travel soccer, to connecting his brother Jon with Aaron for career advice, to figuring out the shared Cheshire High connection. He was so proud of his family, and is undoubtedly watching Matt & Joe continue to work hard, be kind and laugh as he did. Our condolences.

Greg was such a kind man who always welcomed our family into his home. He was a great gardener who shared his delicious vegetables and had a gift with bringing kids out of their shell. I have a child that is very shy but became fast friends with Mr. Lauria. He always had a smile on his face and a gentle tone in his voice. He will be missed.

My sincerest condolences to Greg's Family. I work in one of the AAA stores in NJ which he oversaw the insurance dept. I work in membership and but I also work with the insurance agents. Any time Greg came to our NJ store, he listened to my ideas and included me in brainstorming sessions. You could see he loved his job and would do anything to help make you successful. Whether you worked for him directly or indirectly. In the fall of 2019, we came up with a goal of insurance referrals and if the store hit said goal, the insurance dept, would reward our store with the ice cream from one of our local ice cream trucks. Not only did we hit that goal, we exceeded it for the quarter! It was a proud day when Greg and his colleague came to our store for ice cream - a reward and a memory that will be cherished.
Please know he will be deeply missed!! I am truly sorry for your loss.

The best of the best, and will be greatly missed and forever remembered by so many. I don't have the words, Kerri, Matt, and Joe... The years we spent working with AAA together in Kansas, were some great times. My greatest memory were his nightly calls with his boys, Matt and Joe. Every call ended with, "I love you. I'm proud of you. I'm proud to be your dad, and I'm proud to call you my son." I'll never forget that, nor the beautiful family man that I got to call my friend. God bless you.

I am deeply sorry to hear about the loss of Greg. Your father and husband was an incredibly good and generous man. Greg would often stop by my cubicle and ask how I was and what I was up to. We would chat and he would share stories. It was clear he was a proud papa and loved his family immensely. Keeping Greg's family and friends in my thoughts and prayers. Rest easy Greg.

Greg was the All-Time MVP! He was the greatest mentor and friend. I had known him since my early 20's at AAA and he has been rooting for me ever since. I have never met someone so happy in life. He loved his wife and kids and talked about them so affectionately. He led an honorable life. He was one of the richest people I knew and when I say "Rich" I mean he had more than money could buy. He had a heart so big to help and mentor others along their journeys. I am at a loss for words because he was most importantly my friend. He genuinely cared for my family and made sure my family came first in my life. Family is what made him "Rich". My condolences to all of who knew him: Kerri, Matt, Joe, and all other family members and friends! I do believe God had his mansion ready for him. Greg you did make the "Big Leagues" .... not many can lead the life that you did. I love you my friend. My heart is broken, but until we meet again!...

Our most sincere condolences to you. Greg made each track meet, baseball game (when the boys were still using tees), play and concert a little more fun and special. He will have a place in our hearts and in our thoughts for all the years to come. We are here for you.

Kerri, Matt, and Joe, We are so sorry for your immeasurable loss. Greg was loyal, responsible, and dependable, a guy who did things the right way. He lived for his family, and the protective traits he developed as a high school kid who looked out for his mom, Cindy and Jon, after losing his father, were obvious in him, as a husband and father, himself. Greg was quietly helpful and quick to pitch in, whether cleaning up after Thanksgiving, or jumping off the boat to tie up, without being asked. He was also enthusiastic. I don't think I've ever met anyone who loved baseball as much as Greg- but even that paled in comparison to his love for his family. You guys were his life. We are all crushed to lose him, but thankful to have had him in the family as a favorite uncle. May God surround you with comfort and strength until you are all together again. We love you. Kris, Mike and crew
