Jeffrey Werner Obituary

Werner, Jeffrey, 65, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2016. Born in Cleveland, OH on Sept 2, 1950. He moved to Miami, FL shortly thereafter. He is predeceased by his loving wife Andrea, his parents Robert & Coleen Werner. Jeff is survived by his children Jamie Sackett (Michael), son Brian Werner, sisters Leslie Mayeron (Richard) & Connie Werner, his nieces Lindsay & Dana Mayeron, his two grandchildren Colby & Logan Sackett, and his brother-in-law & nephew Scott & Kyle Garawitz. A "Jack of All Trades" in life, he spent his early years working with his dad at Academy Auto Parts, before opening his own video store in Miami. From there, he worked for LIVE Entertainment & other sales jobs, before settling into his favorite role: Pop Pop to his 2 grandchildren. Besides his family, his greatest passion was for The Boss, Bruce Springsteen. He was involved with youth sports at both the Little League & High School levels, always donating his time to both long after his kids were grown up. A Miami Hurricane thru and thru, he loved all sports, especially his fantasy leagues. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 25th at 11:00 am, at Lakeside Memorial Park in Miami. Interment will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The National Kidney Foundation, The American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of America.

I was very sad to hear of Jeff's passing through the reunion letter. Jeff was a terrific guy and great sports enthusiast. He worked hard on the football team and was a key part of the 67-68 Gables national championship team. RIP Jeff.

My deepest condolences to Jeff's family and friends. As a member of the 1968 National and Florida State HS football champions at Coral Gables HS I was lucky enough to have played defensive line with Jeff. I was also one of his close HS buddies. My fondest memories of Jeff are the rides we made to school on game days. Jeff always came by the Grove and picked up me and other teammates who didn't yet own cars. Those rides were always special because, playing the same position, we would go over the scouting report and remind ourselves of the special defenses installed for that night's game. He would drive us home, too. First, thru the side streets off Grand Ave in the dark of night dropping off teammates then dropping me off last at the edge of the Grove, technically in Miami High territory. He would then drive all the way back to his home many miles away. That's a true friend!! Although Jeff was not a starter nor did he see a lot of playing time he took part in each and every grueling practice, wind sprint, bull-in-the-ring drill and Bloody Saturday that Coach Kotys threw at us... and he never once quit, NOT ONCE, or gave less than his very best. That's the measure of one helluva tough football player-- and a real man!!Jeff had more school spirit in his little finger than most of us had in our whole being. Jeff, his dad, mom, cheerleader sister, Connie, bled Cavalier crimson & silver. A very nice family who helped us travel to those state championship games in Tampa & Jax in nice, non-yellow buses.... not many know that.I hadn't seen Jeff since high school ( I now regret that time lapse) when I hugged him at our 40th reunion. He cried when he saw me and we talked for hours thru the night. You just don't find great human beings like Jeff Werner these days. I will miss him dearly but the memories are eternal and those that lived with him and knew him were BLESSED by his great big heart and by the Good Lord!!

Jeff was a true friend to all those who played football at Coral Gables. He was a big part of The Team of The Century, we couldn't have done it without him!
He always had a funny joke or a kind word for all.
I'm sure he's enjoying his reunion with all the coaches in heaven, they all appreciated his help at Gables.
We will remember you at the 50th reunion coming up soon.
Thanks for all you did.

Brian and Jamie, I have such wonderful memories of your mom and dad and all of the baseball games and practices that my sons, Joey and Kurk, attended. Both Andrea and Jeff affected so many lives. I am so grateful for the work they did with all of the boys. I am so sorry for your loss.
