I didn't know Andy well, but I do remember one night I was riding on the jump seat in the cockpit of the plane he was flying and in the course of the conversation we figured we were born on the same day. I was born in California on July 8, 1941 and he was born on July 9, 1941 but due to the differences in time zones it was probably the same day.

Andy and I had a special assignment to rate a Spanish CAA pilot for B727 rating and then get an F/E rating at the same time. Great fun at TWA. My condolences to Andy's family.

What a GOOD GUY!! Worked with Andy in and around TWA in early 70s we were beached/ furloughed and scrambled to make it along with a lot of other guys like Dusty West. We all helped each other and Andy was always upbeat. We instructed in the training center and I was at FAA when he was flying for Global. We both flew C-130s and were in Desert Storm, Andy with the St Joe boys and I was with the mile high gang at Pete Field. Pilots form lifelong friendships. What a guy, what a life. Cheers

I have known Andy for very many years. He came to Boeing just after I did. From the very beginning he was always the quiet professional, rarely speaking of his personal life but always reaching out to make sure his professional work was above par. I will truly miss him. May the Lord bless him and keep him in His hands.

To Andy's Family,
I sent this to Everyone at Boeing and it was suggested I post it here.
"All,
Andy will be missed. He was a great guy and a friend. He was a TWA Pilot before Boeing but I didn’t meet him there. He was at Boeing when I showed up in 2011 and Captain Jim Minardi who, hired me, assigned Andy as one of my Instructors on the B757. Andy would get your attention pretty quickly on what he expected of a Boeing Instructor. You had better be prepared, know your flows and procedures, limitations and memory items. But he presented his lessons with knowledge, clarity, and a little bit of a smile. I thought I knew the B757 pretty well before Andy but after him I was sure. We had a great time and I learned a lot. Andy was a great mentor and the model of what a professional Instructor and Evaluator should emulate. Those of you who have worked with him know what I’m trying to say.
Andy will be missed and God’s peace be with you. Strong tailwinds flying west. "

I was fortunate to meet Andy when I took over Boeing’s Training Center Evaluator program nearly a decade ago. Following that introduction, I so looked forward to getting to speak with him at the annual recurrent training and, when I was lucky, our occasional phone conversations. Andy was a quiet, consummate professional of the highest caliber and I learned much from his considerable knowledge and experience. Always a smile on his face, always willing to help, and always willing to stand on his principles – that was Andy. He was truly an icon in our Boeing training programand he will be greatly missed.

I had the privilege of working with Andy for sixteen years at Boeing. Our work Stations were next to each other and he always made the time to ask how my family and boys were progressing with school and sports. We had countless conversations about Little League and about raising two young (almost teenage) boys - he always had great advice and listened intently to my stories and concerns. He shared many great stories about his career and family, but was never one to boast. I am thankful to have worked with Andy and I’ll always cherish our friendship. My sincere sympathies to his family. God speed, Andy! You have the flight controls!
