James Burkett Obituary

James C. Burkett

James Burkett, died peacefully on November 5, 2003 in Everett, WA. He was born in Keosauqua, IA on March 30, 1941 to Fred and Mildred Burkett. He graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1959 and Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1963. Jim practiced Chiropractic in the Marysville community for 33 years until 1997. He was President of The Burkett Co, a real estate investment company since 1972. He and his wife Joann started Burkett's Women's Clothing Store in downtown Everett in 1978.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn of 37 years, his daughter, Holly Pohland and husband Todd of Everett, his son, Khale Burkett and wife Melissa of Colorado Springs, and daughter, Brooke Burkett of Seattle.
He was a loving grandfather to 3 grandchildren; Kate and Will Pohland and Wiley James Burkett. He is also survived by his sister, Annette (Ted) Wade and 5 brothers, Delmar (Jerry), Larry (Barbara), Doyl (Cathey), Mike (Sharon), and Lyle (Karen) Burkett and a host of nieces and nephews.
Jim was active in several community organizations in the Marysville/Everett area. He was General Chairman of the Marysville Strawberry Festival, Director of Marysville YMCA, Director of the Marysville Chamber of Commerce, Founder and President of the Marysville Rotary Club, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Founder of North County Bank. He served on the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners and he was President of the Washington State Chiropractic Political Action Committee, President of the Chiropractic Society of Washington and was named Chiropractor of the year in 1976.
He was a member of the United Way Alexis de Touqueville Society, Everett Golf and Country Club and The Roscoe Society.
Jim was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Everett having served on the Vestry as Jr. Warden and the Trinity Endowment Commission.
Most of all, he was a loving husband and an inspiration to his children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the Trinity Episcopal Church Endowment Fund - 2301 Hoyt, Everett, WA, 98201, or Marysville Rotary Education Foundation - P.O. Box 1875, Marysville, WA, 98270, Attn: Harv Jubie.
Services will be held at 1:30pm on Monday, November 10, 2003 at Trinity Episcopal Church - 2301 Hoyt, Everett. Reception following at Everett Golf and Country Club.
