Harold R. Joyce, 55, passed away in his sleep on June 7th, 2019. Harold was born in Durham, NC and graduated from Southern High School Class of 1981. He worked for Northern Telecom for 18 years and most recently for WEX in Nashville, TN. He loved his son, his family, his church, and his friends. Harold always had a smile on his face, that's how he got the nickname "Smiley".

Harold is preceded in death by sister Denise Joyce. He is survived by his son Andrew Joyce and former wife Kim Joyce of Nashville TN, his parents James & Wyola Joyce of Durham NC, his siblings Jimmy Joyce of Oxford NC, Vickie King and husband Scot, Linda Griffin of Durham NC and 6 nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Durham Memorial Baptist Church Saturday June 15 11AM with celebration of life at 12PM.

Just the other day I was going thru some items and came across a picture of Harold and myself when we received an award at Nortel. Harold was the reason we received the award as he did the work and worked with me to make things happen. He worked hard but was always cheerful and happy to help anyone. I miss him. Rest in peace my friend.

I just learned Harold passed when reading his mother's obituary at Clements last night. I was so shocked and truly sad to learn he had passed. He always made me laugh and was a wonderful coworker at Nortel. I feel truly blessed to have known him and so sad to know there will be no more calls or our annual Christmas cards. Harold always was more concerned of others and wanted to know how you were. I will miss you my friend and you infectious laughter. Heaven has a true angel.

I have known Harold for a few years and am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Harold will be missed by all who have met him dearly, as he was a very caring person. Many times Harold and I would be on a phone call that would normally take 10 minutes but would last 45 to an hour. Our conversation would just go from one topic to another. He was so nice to talk with, so genuine and really worth getting to know better. I hope you are able to take some solace in knowing just how many people he touched with his wit, humor and great personality. My deepest condolences.

I'm very sorry to hear of Harold's passing. I worked with him for a few years at WEX, and he was one of those special people who could always make people laugh and was always friendly and helpful. He will certainly be missed.

I've only known Harold for roughly 9 months. From the moment I met him he was such a welcoming and friendly presence He was one of the few people at WEX I felt immediately comfortable around. Me and Harold shared many conversations and he's passed on a lot of knowledge to me in the time I spent with him. He was a truly passionate, caring, and kind hearted man that will be greatly missed by everyone that had the blessing of meeting him.

I recently joined WEX and had several interactions with Harold. He is one of those special, unique people who make you feel like you're lifelong friends even though you've just met. I quickly gained an appreciation for Harold's humor, his candor, and his incredible work ethic. Harold took his job seriously. One night he called me at 9 pm about a contractor issue that he was helping me with and made sure it was right. That's just the guy he is.

Like I mentioned, I only had 5 or 6 interactions with Harold, but I feel like I've known him my whole life. He will be greatly missed.
