PENDLETON, SC - Dr. Henry "Hank" Calhoun Martin, Sr., age 73, husband of Judy Smiley Martin, of 205 Martin Sausage Road, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at his residence.
Born on October 16, 1937 to the late John Bayles Martin and Emmaline Whitaker Martin, Dr. Martin was a graduate of Pendleton High School, Class of 1955; Clemson University, Class of 1959 and earned his Doctorate Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in 1963. He served in the United States Air Force for three years in Germany. Dr. Martin practiced for over 35 years with Internal Medicine Associates of Anderson. The last few years, he practiced at Med Central in Anderson. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Anderson. He was an avid landscaper and outdoorsman. Dr. Martin was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to watch his two grandsons in their sporting endeavors.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his son, Henry C. Martin, Jr. and his wife Kristi and their children, Hank and Clay Martin, of Pendleton, SC; his brother, Dr. J.B. Martin of Pendleton, SC; three sisters, Rebecca Browder of Pendleton, SC, Doris Wright of Columbia, SC and Eleanor Ross of Anderson, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Martin was preceded in death by a sister, Peg Martin Porter.
A Private Family Committal Service will be held at the Martin Family Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at First Presbyterian Church of Anderson on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Dennis Tedder officiating.
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends in the Session Room immediately following the memorial service on Tuesday.

A terrific man who enjoyed his patients as much as they enjoyed him. A true compassion for his patients, regardless of "policies", made him stand out. He loved his beautiful wife and family, his employees were his friends...that smile and twinkle in his eyes will be missed. Praying for the family who was gracious in sharing him with so many. We loved that feller!

Dr Martin was very dedicated to and loved by his patients and employees at Internal Medicine. I worked for him for 9 years there and witnessed his compassionate care. I was so sad to hear that Dr martin had passed, I had got to be pretty close to him at med central and missed him while he was away sick. I just wanted to say that we need a lot more Drs like him , that would sat and listen to your problems ,instead of pushing you out the door , just so he could get to another patient. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Henry for so many years. He was a wonderful physician with much compassion for his patients. I always loved his sense of humor. He was truly a family man and was so proud of his family. I treasure my memories of him. I will remember all of you in my prayers.

Rebecca, Doris and Elanor:I was saddened to read of the death of Calhoun. I know his passing will be a great loss to all of you and his family.I dearly remember all the great times at the family home playing outside and in the attic with john and Calhoun with his long curls.
