Betty Helman (Maurer, Paller, Burnham) Carlin

Indianapolis - Betty Helman, (Maurer, Paller, Burnham) Carlin, died peacefully, at 97 years old, December 25, 2019. She was born January 28, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Jack and Odessa Helman. Her funeral will be held at the Beth-El Zedeck Chapel, 600 West 70th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260 on Monday, December 30, 2019, at 11:00 a.m.

She was preceded in death by her one sister who was her best friend, Marjorie Bradford. She married Julius Maurer, Ben Paller, Wayne Burnham and Jules Carlin, who all preceded her in death.

Betty lived her life with gusto. She always saw the good in others. She was an integral part of the Indianapolis Jewish community, a role model in giving back. She graduated from Shortridge High School. When she attended Indiana University, she was one of the founders of the Jewish sorority, Sigma Delta Tau. She was an excellent cook, creative artist, enjoyed planning parties, and helped friends and family design their homes. She loved traveling and was an avid golfer and tennis player into her late 80's.

Being with her family and friends was her greatest joy. She was proud of and survived by her children, Michael "Mickey"(Janie), Ronald (Jean), Bonnie (Jeff Freemas) and Wendi (Elliot Shev), and her step children Alan Paller and Joanie Paller Bines and her many grand and great grandchildren.

The family thanks all of her dear caregivers: Sharon Noel, Arzella Williams, Caroline Tekete, Debra Arnold, Debbie Carter, Denisa Noel and Peggy Thomas for their excellent help in caring for Betty.

The family suggests instead of flowers, donations to the Sidney Maurer Memorial Feed the Hungry Fund at Beth-El Zedeck or to the charity of your choice.
