Manuel Frnacisco Rodriguez, 83, of Calexico, CA, was born on June 11, 1939, in Los Angeles, CA. He passed away of complications from a pulmonary illness on February 24, 2023, at El Centro Regional Medical Center.
Manuel married Grace Rodriguez on August 1, 1980, in Las Vegas, NV.
After graduating from high school in 1958, Manuel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he obtain the rank of Private First Class and served as a Field Artillery Batteryman. Manuel would fulfill his four-year commitment and obtained an honorable discharge in 1963. Manuel would return to Los Angeles to work at his father's restaurant, the El Amigo Cafe. After relocating to Calexico, CA, Manuel would commence a firefighter career after being hired by the Calexico Fire Department in 1967. Manuel retired as a captain from the Calexico Fire Department in 1994. Manuel would then work for the State of California's Employment Development Department, as a Park Aide for the California State Parks, and lastly as a gasoline station attendant for Costco.
Manuel was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Rodriguez; mother, Elvira Rodriguez; brother, Renaldo (Ronnie) Rodriguez; and grandson, Jose Roberto Rodriguez.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Rodriguez; sons, Jose Rodriguez, Freddie Rodriguez, and Kasey Rodriguez; daughter, Elizabeth Reisen; brother, Fernando Rodriguez; sisters, Ruth Bringas and Rosita Hall; along with many grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on March 20, 2023, at Hems Brothers Mortuary in Calexico, CA, at 9 a.m. Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico, CA, at 11:30 a.m., followed by the burial at Mt. View Cemetery at 1 p.m.

I met Rod on his first day as a Calexico Fighter fighter at the old First St. Fire Dept. He as soft spoken an eager to learn his firefighting skills. we became good friends. May his soul rest in peace.
