Rev. Ellis Gasser

Delphi - Reverend Ellis Kenneth William Gasser, 83 passed away peacefully on February 9, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center.

Ellis was born in Portage, Wisconsin on November 19, 1937. He graduated Portage Highschool in 1956. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad Company for 9 years while attending the University of Wisconsin and Seminary. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science and continued his education at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois and graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity and became a Presbyterian Minister. Also, while attending the University of Wisconsin, Ellis was a 2-year Varsity Boxer earning 3rd in the NCAA championships in 1961.

Ellis was married to Joanne Ione (Accola) Gasser on June 30, 1962; they were married 52 years. Joanne passed on August 24, 2014.

Ellis worked as a minister for Presbyterian churches in Armstrong, Iowa, Richland Center, Wisconsin, and Delphi for a total of 38 years., He started preaching at the Delphi Presbyterian Church of Delphi in 1980 and retired in the Spring of 2003. After his retirement, he was the moderator and preacher for the Rockfield Presbyterian Church through 2014.

While in Delphi, Ellis was integral in starting the Carroll County Food Pantry, and the Carroll County Christmas Food Baskets. He was President of the Board of Directors for the Food Pantry for many years.

Ellis and Joanne had two sons. James (passed in 1992) and John of Delphi. Surviving Ellis are John and his wife Cassandra (Helms) and grandchildren Bailey, Jordyn, and Cayden Gasser.

Ellis enjoyed farming, raising his "flock", 4-H, going to Wisconsin football games, watching his grandchildren show his sheep, participate in sports, and being with his family. Ellis never knew a stranger and was a great role model to many. He was always willing to listen and lend a helping hand. You could usually hear him yell, "Go Bucky!" at the TV when he was watching games with the family.

Ellis is preceded in death by his wife, Joanne, sister, Lucille Larsen and his parents, Clarence and Auber (Cook) Gasser.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2021 at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi. The Memorial Service will begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2021 at Davidson Funeral Home with Rev. Grace Hammer of the Delphi Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial services will be this summer in Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Delphi Food Pantry.
