Esther Davies Obituary

Heaven gained a true angel when Esther (D'Almeida) Davies, 90, of South Windsor, passed from this life Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Esther was the beloved wife of the late Robert S. Davies Sr. "Bob."

She was born in Swansea, Massachusetts, Aug. 16, 1928, to the late Germano and Angelina (Victorino) D'Almeida and grew up in Hartford, graduating from Hartford Public High School in 1946. Esther met the love of her life, Bob, when he swept her off her feet at a city roller-skating rink and she was immediately smitten with what she always referred to as "those beautiful blue eyes." They were married in 1947 and resided in Hartford, Glastonbury, and Tolland before settling with their son and daughter in Ellington, a place they called home for almost 40 years. Although Esther worked as an operator for the phone company in her earlier years, then at a handful of jobs including cashier, bookkeeper, and secretary for various businesses over the years, her favorite job in the world was being a loving wife and mother and later, a grandmother of two granddaughters she adored.

In addition to her Lord and her family, Esther loved all God's creatures especially her many dogs and cats over the years. She also loved camping with her family, fishing, music and singing, painting, bible study, flowers, jewelry, and any treat that satisfied her never-ending sweet tooth. She was eager to help others with her charitable heart and kind and loving soul. Esther's family and friends were blessed to have her in their lives and she will be dearly missed.

She leaves to mourn her passing a son and his longtime partner, Robert Davies Jr. and Wendy Stanley of Edwards, Colorado; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Steven Augustus of Vernon; granddaughters, Erin Payne of Tolland, and Meghan Kacmarcik of Quincy, Massachusetts; step-grandsons, Scott Augustus of New York City and Todd Augustus of Arlington, Virginia; a special Godson, Evan Lane of Glastonbury; and her former son-in-law and his wife, Jim and Andrea Kacmarcik of South Windsor. She also leaves many nieces and nephews as well as her lifelong friend, Angie Mann of Aurora, Colorado; and her dear friend of many years, Judi Parady of Willington. In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was predeceased by her sister, Violet Dondi; brothers, Ermond and Everett D'Almeida; and sisters-in-law, Ethel DeMichele and Ruth Morrell.

For the last 3½ years, Esther resided at The Village at Buckland Court and her family would like to thank the staff who took great care of her especially her two very special aides, Yolanda and Shari, for their excellent care. They kept her laughing (or maybe it was the other way around) and for that we are especially grateful.

A celebration of life and burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 523 Hartford Tpke., Vernon, with burial immediately following at Ellington Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at the Small & Pietras Funeral Home, 65 Elm St., Rockville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Cornerstone Foundation, P.O. Box 2036, Rockville, CT 06066.
