Norma Shippee 1930—2016
Norma (Jean) Shippee, 86 of McConnell, passed away peacefully at home on May 10, 2016 after a long struggle with cancer. She was born Feb 21, 1930 in Guide Rock, Nebraska to parents Emil and Esther (Linn) Shimic.After graduating from high school in Guide Rock, she taught school in a one-room house for 2 years. She married Willard Shippee of Lena on Sept 2, 1951.She was a long time employee of Le-Win School district, starting at the McConnell Elementary School. She was a member of McConnell United Methodist Church since the 1960s. She loved her family more than anything, and got particular pleasure from watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in school activities, sports, and music. When she was no longer able to attend in person, she watched them on LWTV. She is survived by: husband, Willard; children Pat(Rich) Daughenbaugh, McConnell, Pam Shippee, Huntington Beach, CA, Rhonda Scheider, McConnell, and Greg Shippee, Huntington Beach: sisters Marie (Dee,deceased) Hulsebusch, Topeka, KS, and Shirley (Rudy) Miller, Penn Valley CA: grandchildren Jeremy(Kym) Daughenbaugh, Fox Lake, IL, Brian Scheider, Florida, Jodi(Tim)Watter,Aurora,IL, and Stacey Scheider,Lena: great-grandchildren Taylor Dawson, Zach and Ashley Watter, and Trevor Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: sisters, Elsie Shimic, Alice Henry, and Mae Queckboerner and several brothers-and sisters-in-law.
There will be no public funeral service. Memorial funds have been established for the McConnell United Methodist Church and Carbone Cancer Center at UW Madison. Online condolences and memories can be shared with the family at www.schwarzfh.com.
