Heidi Downing Obituary
Heidi Downing, of Freeport Illinois, had her continuation day on October 11th, 2020, and transitioned to her next journey peacefully at home. She has been an inspiration to generations of people living in Freeport. Her selfless love for all of her students, made her an important part of countless families in this community, and extended far beyond the classroom. She was an outstanding and enthusiastic grandmother of 2 boys, Storm and Zion, whom she loved as deeply as her only son, Jason, and husband Gary. Heidi led teachers to better working conditions, was an essential member of Grace Episcopal Church, loved dogs, and loved Star Wars. She gave others kindness and compassion, expecting nothing in return. She also taught many generations of teachers, and you can see her spirit and love in those teachers, and their students today. She ALWAYS put others before herself, a cornerstone of her life, and loved everyone equally regardless of race, gender, lifestyle, or religion. Heidi Downing truly represented Love, kindness, and Peace. There will be a celebration of her life open to all that loved and knew her on August 7th @ 11am, in the Faith United Methodist Church field, behind her home (410 W. I dont have the words to say my heart is so broken right now. Although it happened months ago I feel as if it happened today. She was the most amazing person who played a major role in my life. Although she was my 3rd grade teacher she still was apart of my life until I was grown so much so that she was apart of our wedding. I know she loved me and I will always and forever love her.
Mr Downing and Jason my prayers are with you she will be truly missed by many

Gary and Jason,
Darlene and I will not be able to attend the Celebration of Life for Heidi. She was a wonderful person to work with and we both enjoyed that very much. She always desired to do her best for her students and found ways to help each be successful. We are so sorry we can't be there, but please know that we send our heartfelt condolences to you both.

I can remember when you were born, your mother was a teacher at Center School. Your parents were the Best!!!
Your mother knew half of my siblings, out our family of 12.
