DOUGLAS CULLEN Obituary

Douglas Cullen, 94, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on Feb 28, 2011. He was born Jan 4, 1917 in Cardiff, S. Wales, U.K. Doug graduated from King's College in Tauton, England. He served with the Liverpool Police force as a "Bobby," before entering the Royal Air Force and flying 27 missions as a bombardier in WWII. His last combat flight was Christmas Eve 1943. In 1946, Doug came to Kansas City and married his sweetheart of seven years, Betty Jean Stark, at Second Presbyterian Church. They celebrated 64 years of marriage in Oct. 2010. He was employed by Business Men's Assurance Company in 1946 and retired in 1979. In 1971, Doug became a naturalized citizen of the USA. He was an ordained elder at Second Presbyterian Church, an avid golfer, a proud BMA retiree, and a lover of all things British. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Andrew; sister, Phyllis; and son, John F. Cullen, who died in Jan. 2003. Doug is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Andrew (Nancy), of Gladstone, MO; daughter Phyllis (Joe) Strobl, of Overland Park, KS; and daughter-in-law, Marilynn Cullen. He is also survived by six grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 nephews, and 1 niece. A memorial service will be held on March 3, at 10 a.m., at Second Presbyterian Church, 318 E. 55th St., Kansas City, MO with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Second Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund. (Arr.
