Thomas Hafley

HAFLEY Thomas Warren, known to the many who loved him as Tom, died on Wednesday, Oct 28, 2015. He was 18 and a senior at Tates Creek High School. Tom died by suicide after living with depression for a long time. He is survived by so many who loved him, including his parents, David Hafley and Janet Shedd, his adored brother, Ian, many aunts, uncles and cousins, including Jean Shedd and Pulak Dutta of Evanston, Ill., Margaret Wieboldt and the late Ray Wieboldt of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., Dan Hafley and Jennifer Stout of Portland, Ore, Rick and Sue Hafley of Sarasota, Fla., and Dennis Hafley and Cindy Ciura of West Bloomfield, Mich.; and his cat, Stevie. He had countless friends whom he cherished, including Nathan Vranicar and Jacob Powell. Tom blessed us for many wonderful years with his creativity, kindness, sense of humor and adventure, bravery and joy. He loved cars (when he was young, Hot Wheels, when older, real cars!), made incredible costumes, played on the Tates Creek archery team since its inception, and most of all liked chilling with his friends. We will miss him more than words can say, but are grateful he has found peace. Thank you to all who love him and who tried their best to help him. We will celebrate Tom's life on Sunday, Nov 8, at The Arboretum Visitor Center in Lexington. Drop in between 1pm and 4pm, with remembrances of Tom shared at 3pm.
