Robert Goebel Obituary

Robert Lynn "Rob" Goebel

Knoxville - Robert Lynn Goebel, "Rob", walked into the arms of God on January 24, 2021. Born in Hinsdale, Illinois, he moved to Knoxville when he was 9 years old. He is the son of Robert H. Goebel and the late Marilynn A. Goebel. He is recognized throughout Knoxville as the co-owner of Cazzy's Corner Grill. Rob was an award-winning restauranteur. Cazzy's Corner Grill, under Rob's guidance, was recognized with Top Chef awards by Cityview magazine in 2017. His remarkable career spanned several decades and Rob was considered a cornerstone of the local restaurant community.

Rob was a graduate of Tusculum College and was an avid sports fan favoring the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls. Rob embodied hospitality. His vibrant personality engaged everyone who came into his business - both customers and workers. He wanted those around him to feel at home, and it was common to see Rob talking with customers like they were family while in the restaurant, and sharing the pride he felt in welcoming them by sharing stories from his life experiences.

Rob loved Belize and traveled there often for 20 years. He planned to buy a home and retire there someday. He had just returned from a trip to Belize for his 50th birthday. He loved deep sea fishing, the beach, vivid sunrises, the calm and relaxed culture, and decorated his home with the island theme he loved so much.

Rob is survived by his father, Robert Goebel and his companion Connie Steele, sisters Meri Goebel, Angie Goebel, brothers Dale Wells and Dan Wells, Megan Hall, Chad Wells, and many other nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilynn Goebel, and his older brother, Larry Wells.

Friends may stop by at their convenience on Friday, January 29, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm at Click Funeral Home, Middlebrook Chapel, 9020 Middlebrook Pike to pay respects and sign the register. A private memorial service will be held at the burial site for family and close friends at Edgewood Cemetery on Saturday, January 30 at 11:00.

Condolences and messages can be sent to [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Rob's favorite charity.

Rob was an individual I will never forget. His dedication and determination at work were impressive. We met at the restaurant and he later became a customer at my work where we had hours and hours of discussion on the struggles of owning a small business. Watching him make changes and guide a restaurant through a pandemic was inspiring. He became a role mode and I looked up to him very much. Rest In Peace Rob you will be missed dearly by everyone who ever got to know you.

I only knew Rob through mutual friends but I remember him as being wonderfully kind, easy going and so friendly. I remember him playing games with the children at a party and engaging with them as if he were 'one of the kids'. Incredibly tragic loss. Prayers of comfort and peace to his grieving family.

I was just thinking about Rob last Saturday morning. I told my wife I was going to call him up out of the blue and saw howdy. We hadn’t spoken in many years, but I know he would have loved that phone call. I worked with Rob at Chili’s many years ago. He was so good at his job, even way back then. We had a lot of fun working side by side. Customers loved Rob, he made everyone feel at home.
You will be missed, sir. You should have gotten the chance to retire on the beach. My love goes out to your family.

Rob was so good at his job. He would treat us a friends when we would visit Cazzy's Corner Grill. He shared life stories, aspirations and welcomed us with open arms.

Meri and Family, I am so sorry about the loss of Rob. I remember riding the school bus with him in middle and high school. Meri was the 1st school friend I made when my family moved to Knoxville in 1982. My heart and prayers go out to your family for healing and strength during this time.
