Florene Mirisch Obituary

MIRISCH, Florene S. Passed away peacefully August 20, 2006 at UCLA Medical Center after suffering a stroke. She was 87. Born in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph Smuckler and Ruth Glasgow, Florene was raised in Milwaukee with her brother, Harvey. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) in 1939, majoring in journalism. Florene met her husband, Marvin Mirisch, in 1941, and they married on December 28 of that year. They moved to Los Angeles in 1953. Together, they raised a family and enjoyed a loving and successful marriage that lasted over 61 years. Marvin passed away in 2002. Known for her energy, generosity and sense of humor, Florene loved to make the family laugh. She and her husband enjoyed an active social life, as well as travel occasioned by his work, which took them to many foreign locales. She never tired of sharing these experiences with friends and family. Her home was filled with the scents of flowers she cultivated. She was an active golf and bridge player until a major stroke in 1989. From the beginning of her life to the end, Florene's first priority was her family. She valued close contact with her mother, children, grandchildren and, lately, great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children Don Mirisch (Roberta), Carol Hartmann, and Lynn Rogo (Mark); grandchildren Niki, Marc, Jill, Brian, Lisa and Marcie; and great-grandchildren Marissa, Benjamin and Norah. The memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 Centinela Ave., Los Angeles. The family asks that donations be made to the American Stroke Association, Memorial & Tribute Processing Center, 1710 Gilbreth Rd., Burlingame, CA 94010.
