John Butler Obituary

Butler, John W.
Died Thursday, March 3 2005 after a brief illness. A longtime resident of Littlerock, California he was born September 9, 1919 in Rockford Illinois, the second of three children and only son of William D. and Agnes J. Butler. Known as Jack to family and friends, he served as a tank commander during World War II under General George Patton. An expert in psychological warfare, he was called back to active duty for both the Korean and Vietnam conflict before retiring from the Army Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. He was an active member of the International of Brotherhood of Teamsters, and served as president of his local for many years. He is survived by his wife Virginia Ranten Butler, 12 nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and nephews, a great-great niece and a great-great nephew. Funeral Service and Mass will be held Tues. March 8, 12 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Palmdale, with interment following at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, Palmdale.

Jack was a very good friend of mine and we are also related. he was interested in the Butler Family History that i have put together on my Heritage ( See Maxwell Family Ardclough for Butler family tree). he wrote to me several times and remebered his chats with his cousins in Williamstown, Ballingarry, Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland. i would love to share Jack's genealogy with any interested members of his family. contact me at [email protected]
