Carl Reid Obituary

"Love: giving yourself - entirely - to someone and not losing yourself in the process, notwithstanding the possibility of pain." - Carl J Reid

"I thrive in the radiance of God's love." - Carl J Reid

On February 18, 2016, we lost Carl J Reid as heaven's gates welcomed him. Beloved father, brother, and friend, Carl was born to Allen I. Reid and Elizabeth Johnston Reid on August 18, 1949. He attended school in Clovis, New Mexico and began his college education at New Mexico State University when drafted into the United States Army in 1969. Carl served 22 months in the HHT 4/12th Cavalry, Fifth United States Army, weapons infantry division during the Vietnam war and was awarded many medals including a National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 2nd OLC, Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with "60" Device, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device for Heroism.

Carl then worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as an engineer for 25 years. Carl was a voracious reader, always thirsting for more knowledge. A gifted artist, Carl created spectacular artwork from wood using a lathe. Carl enjoyed the company of his friends, the outdoors, horsemanship, agriculture, and New Mexico. His love for his daughter, family, and friends was only exceeded by his love for God. He will be remembered as an incredibly generous soul who would gladly give a person the shirt off his own back as many of his friends would attest.

Carl leaves behind his daughter Amy Marchut, brother Paul Reid and wife Cheryl, cousins Ken Barr, John Reid, Gary Sandra, Neil and Nancy Johnston, niece Christine Hayes and husband Tim, great nephew Judson, great niece Alexandra, and many wonderful friends.

Carl's warmth and genuine care and concern for those he encountered will be deeply missed.

Carl was a wonderful friend and we were always joking around having a lot of laughs when we were in high school.
I enjoyed the plane ride he gave me flying over Clovis.
He will be missed by all his friends.
God Bless his family.
