Ronald Edwin Lawson

Ronald Edwin Lawson, better known as "Paw-Paw", won his battle with cancer and flew to heaven at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, surrounded by his wife and children. He is healed at last and is finally pain free.

Born on December 27, 1939, in Albemarle County, Ronald was the son of and preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Knight Lawson and father, Charles Lawson; and his sister, Peggy Habern; and brother- in-law, Curtis Shifflett. Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Eleanor Collier Lawson. Other survivors include his sister, Gladys Shifflett of Stanardsville; his brother, Carroll Lawson and his wife, Brenda, of Stanardsville; a brother-in- law, Jim Habern of Madison. In addition, he is survived by his daughters, Sherri Lawson of Ruckersville, Deneen Morris, her husband Lawrence, and their children, Casey and Corey of Scottesville; his sons, Curtis, wife, Amy, their three sons, Cy, Seth and Noah, of Ruckersville; and Ronnie Lawson, his wife Darlene, their children, J. W. Pauley, Ashley Marshall and her daughter, Maggie, and Caitlyn Pauley and her sons, Weston and Tyler Lawson. In addition, many nieces and nephews, with a special niece, Marsha Alley and her husband, Jim, and daughter, Lauren. In addition, a very dear friend that was loved and considered to be an adopted grandchild, Jered Gillespie. Ronald was a member of the Nortonsville Church of God where he served as an usher, church plumber, and a helper to all as he loved his church family. Ronald was a master plumber certified in the state of Virginia. Ronald worked for Jim Beck Plumbing and Heating for 20 years and later worked for Blue Ridge Services, from where he retired. Ronald's joy was his family and his grandchildren were the love of his life. He loved baseball and football or anything that his kids, grandkids or their friends were in his front yard playing. Ronald was often seen with a smile on his face and willingness to help wherever he was needed. The family would like to thank the following, Dr. Barbara Post and Dr. George Beller for more than 25 years of care that each provided. Dr. Geoffrey Weiss and the University of Virginia Cancer Center staff for the care they provided, the Hospice of the Piedmont for the love and care they displayed. In addition, great appreciation goes out to the University of Virginia Physicians Group management and staff for their compassion and support as they made it possible for Curtis to adjust his schedule and be available for Ronald's doctor appointments and home care needs. A special thanks to the James River Cut-ups for many hours of blue grass music that were performed at Ronald's home. He loved blue grass music and this brought many joyous times for him and his family.

There will be a celebration of Ronald's life at Nortonsville Church of God 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012, with Pastor David Allison officiating.

Wow, April 11, 2012 13 years ago you went home to be with the Lord, and at times it still feels like it was just yesterday. I think about you all the time and think about how life has changed since that day, such as having great grandchildren you have not met that I know you would spoil rotten and love just as much. I often think how life would be if you were still here watching them grow and how you play and laugh, but I can only imagine now. I miss you more than words can define each and everyday. I know I will see you again one day, but until then my heart is broken and partly gone as you have a big piece of it with you in heaven. I know you are no longer sick or in pain and that does bring peace to my heart, but doesn't stop the hurt of you not being here. There is so much I miss from you, laughter, smile, hugs, talks all of life's joys. I also know your in heaven with the Lord and other family members sharing stories that we have loved to hear told so many times, man what I would give to hear them again. I am sending you love, hugs and kiss as always do.

Love and miss you Deddy,
Deneen

We are coming up on 11 years since God called you home. I never thought I could miss someone as much as I do you. There is nothing about I don’t miss. I miss the small words that define a wonderful person and man. Deddy, Pops, Daddy , Pawpaw, Uncle, Brother, Husband, Friend. Love and miss you always.

Deddy,

Its been 8 years now that you have been gone and even though time has eased some of the pain it still hurts that your gone. The hole and emptiness in my life and heart can never be filled. I miss you so much each and every day. I think about you all the time. I miss you, your voice, smile and being able to talk to you. You always new how to make me laugh and smile all the time. I know you are in a better place and living a better life, but I at times being selfish want you here with me. Till I see you again know I love and miss each and every day.
You baby girl

Deddy, as we come up on a year of you leaving us to go to heaven, my heart feels like it just happened. I think about you everyday and miss and love just as much. I know in my heart that you are in a better place but it sometimes does not ease the pain, loss or the emptiness I feel. I never knew what lonely could be or mean until now a big part of my heart, world, life and me is gone. I know you will always be in my heart but that does not replace the sound of your voice and laughter. I hope you still know just how much you mean to me and how much I love you still always and forever.
Your little girl, Deneen

My deddy there are not enough words to define what you will mean to forever. You are one of the best people I have ever known. You always had a smile on your face and a twinkle in your eye. You enjoyed living, love and laughter every day in your life. I enjoyed every moment that I spent with you. I know heaven has truly gotten a angel. I wish I could see there faces when they heard your sweet voice sing of joy and praise. I will miss you all the days of my life, but I will also take comfort in knowing that you are in heaven with the Lord and Savior. I love you my deddy. I know we will all miss you but we will be ok.

Paw-Paw, such a small word to describe a wonderful man. He has been a lot of things to me over the years and I will miss him more than words would ever be able to express. Heaven has new angel. I will miss you.

Heaven has one heck of a man now.....
I have 10 years of Love in my heart and mind spent with Dad and the family and I could not ask for more. Dad has lots of names, like Paw-Paw, Deddy, and Pop's, but NEVER a bad one. He was a very hardworking man and would aways be there when you needed him. Just sitting and watching a game on tv or watching the kids outside run and play, he had a smile from ear to ear. Dad was the only person Little Ronnie requested to be in the delivery room when Tyler was born. They sat there watching the Orioles and Yankees play. (That day I did most of the work), but he was there cheering on. Dad was a Very Loving Paw-Paw and will NEVER be forgotten.
This world will never be the same, but nor will Heaven. He is up there just strolling with his loved ones and friends and probabily has an ear-to-ear smile. You go Daddy. I took me 30 years to get a Daddy and I sure am glad it was you. The best father-in-law (out-law) in this life was given to me.
Thank you Dad and Mom. You both have been the best and will aways be cherished in my life.
