I am very saddened to learn of this news. Joe was a very decent, kind, and fun guy. I happened upon his bicycle shop while trying to find parts for vintage Schwinn bikes, and of course, Joe had EVERY part I needed!!!
Joe loved his work, and his expertise enabled me to surprise my dad with a completely restored Scwinn bike from the 50's - and the wonderful memories of that shared time will always be special to me.
Joe knew everyone, it seemed, and always had a kind story to share. He and I are both from Signal Mountain, and we reminisced about the early days and unique history of the community. He also relayed fond memories of my grandfather - also from East Ridge. Joe was a good man, the kind anyone would admire.
I extend my condolences to the family, I know Joe will be missed tremendously.

Joe, what a great source of wisdom and insight you obviously were. Unlike most of these other folks, we didn't know you very well. We happened to be in the Cleveland, TN area visiting Lee University with our high school senior son, Joshua. Joshua is an avid, avid cyclist and loves everything about the vintage bikes and gear that you specialized in. We paid a visit to your shop while we were in town, and the rest is history.
Suffice it to say, Joshua mentions your name often and we actually were going to stop by your shop yesterday (Jan 16, 2017) when we were back at Lee U for another campus visit. As Joshua called your shop number, it was obviously disconnected, so we decided not to make the drive over. After getting back to Georgia, I started researching what had happened, and this led to me to the news of your passing.
All I can say is "Wow". What a full, full life you led, sir. I so appreciate the kind and encouraging words you shared with our son and the impact that it still has on his passion that he obviously shared with you.
We will most certainly meet again, Joe, and I can't wait to sit down for about 2,000 years and listen to some of your stories again.

Daniel, I am so sorry to read of Mr. Joe's passing. I enjoyed talking with him and learned so much from him in a short time. We have moved to Fl because of Bob's physical condition but I have thought of you both since we have been here. Praying for you and the family. Martha Siers

Mr Dyer I remember visiting with you at your pioneer credit office as a boy with my father in which we were your great friends. You always talked to me as I was one of your son's giving me wise worldly advise and buying things from my father. My father and you have always been great friends and me too. Your bike shop in east ridge was wonderful and I and my dad always enjoyed visiting you there after you left pioneer office. You were a wise man with many talents that will be missed. I know you loved your two sons greatly and your whole family and many, many friends. God blessed you with financial success and I know he has blessed you in your new home in heaven.
