Nellie Jones Marks

MARKS, Nellie Jones, 85, formerly of Palm Bay, Florida, and currently of Richmond, Virginia, died Sunday, March 28, 2010. Born in Clinton, N.C., she was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill D. Marks; two sisters, Nola Jackson and Carrie Hawley; and three brothers, Graham Jones, Donnie Jones, and Pete Jones. She is survived by her children, Dennis Hawley, Billie Sue Willard, and Kim Hawley, all of Richmond, Virginia; her grandchildren, Scott Hawley, Erin Allen, Erika Modrak, Genevieve Siegel-Hawley, Octavia Siegel-Hawley, Julianna Siegel-Hawley, Nelly Hawley-Hayes, Piper Hawley-Hayes, Sicily Hawley-Hayes and Fisher Hawley-Hayes; two great-grandchildren, Jack Hawley and Payton Modrak; her sister, Edna Welch of Orlando, Florida; her sister-in-law, Lucille Jones of Walterboro, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews. Nellie was a devoted wife, mother and friend. Her strong faith and unwavering commitment to helping others inspired many. She provided a lifetime of loving care for her children and husband, and cared for three of her siblings in their time of need. A lifelong Democrat, Nelly served as a delegate to the Democratic party of Florida. She enjoyed dancing, movies, golf, and playing Bridge, Spades and Gin Rummy. Most of all she cherished her time with loved ones and outlived many of her longtime friends whom she remembered with fondness. The void she leaves will be impossible to fill. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 3, 4 p.m. at Libby Hill Park, 2801 E. Franklin St., Richmond, Va., followed by a reception at the family's home, 2618 E. Franklin St., Richmond, Virginia.
