Frank Burns Obituary

Frank David Burns
1939-2016
Frank David Burns passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at his farm near Bellville, Texas. He was born in New Gulf, Texas on March 11, 1939, and grew up in Boling, Texas. He graduated from Boling High School in 1957, then attended Sam Houston State University and graduated with a BBA degree in 1961. He served his country in the United States Army.
Frank married Gayle Louise McGlothlin, on June 20, 1970, in Houston, Texas in the Chapel at Saint Martin's Episcopal Church. After retiring from 25 years at IBM, he owned a commercial landscaping company, a commercial window company and was an avid real estate investor. Frank was passionate about all things Texas, including South Texas hunting, bass fishing, outdoor barbecuing, Texas Longhorn football and his family farm near Bellville, Texas. Over the past 30 years, he made a tradition of planning an annual opening day dove hunt in South Texas with his son, son-in-law, grandsons and many friends. Affectionately called "Grumpy" by his grandchildren, Frank was their biggest fan and a constant presence at their sporting events much to the chagrin of the officials.
He is preceded in death by parents, Harold Clinton Burns and Emma Mildred Bertram, brother, Harold Burns, and brothers-in-law, Harry McGlothlin and Larry McGlothlin. Frank is survived by his wife of over 46 years, Gayle Burns; daughter, Jana Burns Bruce and husband Greg; son, Brant Clinton Burns and wife Jamie; and his five precious grandchildren, Behr, Bentley, and Bauer Bruce, and Brady and Baker George Burns, all of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Burns and wife Nancy of Graceville, FL; his brother, Charles Burns and wife Gwen of Kerrville, TX; his brother, George Burns and wife Paula of Wharton, TX; his mother-in-law, Lois McGlothlin of Houston, TX; and his sister-in-law, Sharon McGlothlin of Dallas, TX.
The memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 15th of July 2016, in the Sanctuary of Saint Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston, where Reverend Chad Martin is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family at a reception in the Bagby Parish Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Frank's memory may be made in honor of his grandchildren to St. Martin's Episcopal Day School, 717 Sage Road, Houston, Texas 77056, or in continued support of his loving wife and daughter to The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210, www.mdanderson.org/gifts.

I will miss my friend and buddy! We spent a lot of quality time together in the workplace, bird hunting in south Texas and just hanging out together.

He lived a good life and had a wonderful family.

God bless!
