Hernandez family,
I knew Mr. Hernandez very well when he worked at Berman's Furniture in Indiana Harbor and I was a beat officer walking the business district on Main Street. He was truly a gentleman and a close friend. I lost contact with him after I retired. May your memories of Carlos soothe you, your friends comfort you, and your family's strength help your hearts begin to heal. May the love you shared sustain you through this time of sorrow. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Nearly 15 years ago I had the privilege of being introduced to Carlos. From the beginning he welcomed me into his family. Even when times were hard his big smile was always infectious. When I think of the slogan "salt of the earth" I can think of no better example. His legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren. I am proud to say he was my father in law.
