Thomas Conway Obituary

Thomas Tom Conway, a renowned businessman, philanthropist and family man lost his ele- ven year battle with prostate cancer on November 4th, 2018. The son of Henry and Lillian Conway, Thomas was born in Lowell Massachusetts and grew up in Wickford Rhode Island where he learned to love the ocean and sailing, a trait that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Thomas is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy (Newman) Conway, his sister, Maybeth Conway of Wickford, his eight children; Thomas Jr and wife Maegan of Cornville; Maine, Daniel of Mexico City, Mexico; Matthew of Boston, Massachusetts; Patrick Rick and wife Kimberly of Falmouth, Maine; J. Michael and wife Mikka of Los Angeles, California; Colleen Mary and husband Francois Nobert of Gorham, Maine; Catherine and husband Scott Barden of Cornville, Maine and Joseph and wife Jenny Dougherty of South Portland, Maine, and eleven grandchildren; Chad Conway, Erin Conway, Madeline Conway, Ryan Conway, Aidan Conway, Thalia Barden, Oliver Barden, Caira Nobert, Calder Barden, Calvin Conway and Silas Conway. Thomas is a 1961 graduate of Harvard University and a 1963 graduate of The Uni- versity of Pennsylvanias Wharton School of Business with a Master Degree in Business Administration. He used this knowledge and expertise in many business ventures eventually founding Commonwealth Venture Funding Group. His love and understanding of the business help- ed him build a successful ent- erprise. Thomas and Nancy raised their family in Concord Mass- achusetts. Their beloved 1707 farm house was the locale of many family parties and charity functions. When the children were grown, the decision was made to sell and Toms dream of an oceanfront home became a reality. Falmouth, Maine became the new gathering place. Pool part- ies, lobster bakes, sailing Casco Bay and family celebrations are the memories that Tom wanted his clan to have. Toms battle with prostate cancer began eleven and a half years ago. He made the decision that he would fight with everything he had to make sure that his six sons and seven grandsons did not have to suffer as he and grandfathers did. Dr. Christopher Sweeney from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute was chosen to lead the battle. Tom jump- ed at every new treatment that was offered and was known for a smile and a quick retort even when the treatments were agonizing. Thomas was a man who did not always broadcast his charity. He worked tirelessly for those in need. He was a board member of the Concord Housing Trust, St. Boniface Haiti Foundation and many other charities. He actively worked with the Lazarus House in Lawrence Massachusetts, The Family Life Center in Roxbury Massachusetts, St Vincent DePaul at Holy Family Church and as well as many other situations as the need was made known. A celebration of Life Mass will be held at 10:30am on December 1, 2018 at St Cec- ilia Parish; 18 Belvidere St., Boston Massachusetts. Rec- eption to follow at Papa Razzi, 768 Elm St, Concord, MA 01742. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memory of Thomas Conway to support the Nancy A and Thomas H. Conway Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. PO Box 849168, Boston MA 02284. Please write checks to Dana-Farber and include the Nancy A. and Thomas H. Conway Fund in the memo section.

I met Tom when he was sitting at a table waiting for volunteers to join Our Lady Help of Christian's finance committee. All the other tables looking for volunteers had cookies and coffee, or doughnuts and cider. All Tom had was a piece of paper and a pen. My two year old daughter toddled over and he exclaimed, "I have a volunteer!" He and Nan were such great friends to everyone they knew. They threw the best Epiphany parties and had the best clambakes when they moved to Falmouth, ME. Here it is, five years after he left us, and I still think of Tom and Nan with great love in my heart. Thank you Tom and Nan for all of the love and joy you've shared with the rest of us. I can say with great confidence that when Tom entered heaven God exclaimed, "Well done good and faithful servant!"

What a long and rewarding life it sounds like Mr. Conway was able to enjoy! Please be comforted by the promise at 1 Thessalonians 4:14 knowing there is hope for the ones we have lost in death--which can be very heartwarming. I share my condolences with the Conway Family.
