BARNEY NORTHCOTE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 29, 2021.
Our family is saddened to share the passing of our beloved BARNEY NORTHCOTE Sr. He graduated to Heaven on Sept 27, 2021 at home, peacefully. He left behind so many who loved and admired him, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Byrdna Northcote, his son Gregory Northcote (1987) and his daughter Brenda Northcote(2010). He will be missed by his wife Gloria Northcote whom he married in 1974, his sister Nancy Northcote Sprague, His Children Rebecca, Donovan and Barney. He has 12 Grandchildren, Van, Kirsten, Morgan, Roger, Jordan, Bailey, Kindle, Koty, Blake, Tucker, Piper and Violet, as well as many great Grandchildren and extended family. He was born in San Diego, CA on December 16, 1941, moved to Southgate in 1946 and then Riverside, CA in 1947. He eventually retired to Arroyo Grande, CA in 1997. Barney worked in the trucking business while he lived in Riverside and loved every minute of it. His kids knew if they needed money there was always a Peterbilt to wash on Saturday! Both his sons, Don and Barney are involved in trucking today. Eventually he retired, designed and built his dream home in Ranchita Estates, Arroyo Grande, CA. He left trucking behind and took up a new interest involving Rocky Mountain Horses. He, and his wife Gloria, helped bring Rockies to the Central Coast in the late 90's and were very involved with various Rocky Mountain Horse groups. In fact, most of his grandkids rode Rockies and participated in the Rocky horse life. Both Barney and Gloria were avid riders and had many favorite horses. One passion of Barney's stayed consistent throughout his time in Riverside and Arroyo Grande, Racquetball! He started playing with his daughter Rebecca in Riverside, in 1978 and continued playing all the way until 2020. His family was blessed to take many beautiful vacations with him all over the world, he wanted to enjoy his money and his family while he still could and he did! His heart and home were open to so many groups and organizations. He especially had a heart for Teen Challenge, youth groups, horse groups, camping groups, anyone who could benefit from the property he loved. Paradise Ranch has provided thousands of people with incredible memories. The last thing Barney said to all his kids and grandkids was I love you and that really was what he did best, he just loved us. We mourn his loss on earth but not without hope as we will meet with him soon in Heaven. Philippians 3:7-8, Whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. All said and done, Barney Northcote loved Jesus all the days of His life and is now with Him celebrating in eternity. Toodle Loo Buckaroo.

Barney you loved me at my worst and you loved me at my best. You never treated me any different either way. You were always open and honest about your feelings and it was very refreshing for me. You are one of my spiritual dads and I will always love you for the way you welcomed me into your home, your family and your life.

A true gentleman in every sense of the word. Barney never had a harsh word to say about anyone. He was loved by all who knew him. I loved the many years of racquetball and friendship.

You and Gloria introduced me to the Rocky Mountain Horse. I am forever grateful for that. I have met many wonderful friends through me buying a little gangly Rocky Mountain Mare named Autumn Joy. More importantly I got saved at your gorgeous Paradise Ranch. You truly are in heaven now. I’ll never forget that recording on the phone.you will be forever missed Barney. To the family my prayers go up for you. Love you Gloria

Barney and Gloria welcomed us onto their lives and their home in the mid 2000's and i can't share the joy I have had knowing them both these 15+ years. Barney showed me how to help others and stay humble. Every time I saw him again at a show it's as if we just spoke yesterday. He brought joy to many and I'm happy and proud to have called him a great American and a good friend. I'll miss him knowing he's gone to a better place and pray for his guidance until we meet again. Prayers to Gloria, his family and the friends he made across the world. Thanks for the Memories.
