William Preston Obituary
BALLSTON SPA - William G. Preston, 82, passed away peacefully Monday, January 9, 2023, with his family by his side. Bill was born on November 30, 1940, to William and Edwina (Luby) Preston in Troy.
A graduate of LaSalle Institute, he was also a member of the N.Y.S. National Guard.
Bill worked as a banker for 47 years. Following his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, maintaining his yard and always helping his daughters and grandsons with any project.
Known by many for doing extensive genealogy and volunteering his time at local cemeteries, he served on the Board of Directors for the Ballston Spa Village Cemetery from 2017-2021.
Bill loved nothing more than spending time with his grandsons, who will greatly miss their O'Pa. He and Eli were frequently found at the U.S.S. Slater and N.Y.S. Military Museum together. Thomas loved spending time with him doing all kinds of projects and listening to his stories. Nicky enjoyed watching shows with him and having O'Pa cheer him on at sporting events.
A special place for Bill was 'Little Camp', where he whittled walking sticks for the boys, took them fishing and enjoyed sitting around the campfire with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra; and their daughters, Suzanne Sicard (Eric) and Beth Sheridan (Andrew); and his beloved grandchildren, Eli Sicard, Thomas Sheridan, and Nicky Sheridan. He was predeceased by his sister, Janice Alund.
Services will be private at the request of the family.
Memorial contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the Ballston Spa Cemetery, PO Box 231, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.

I had the privilege of volunteering at the Ballston Spa Village Cemetary with Bill and am grateful for the time I spent working alongside him. He was a funny, quick witted, hardworking man who seemed to have as much energy at 80 as I did in my 20s. He was a pleasure to be around, and will be very dearly missed.

I remembered Bill from the old bank days when both my parents worked there. I recently was back in touch with Bill with his cemetery work he did. He mentored me and found information on the Laing Family that i couldn't find. Thank you again, Bill, for sharing knowledge and stories!

So sorry to hear about Bill. Bob and I had wonderful times with the bank crew back in the day. Basketball with the bank team down at St. John's in Albany. Bill was just a kid back then. Say hello to Bob for us all!
