SUSAN MCCLURE Obituary

McClure, Susan (nee Tolle)

May 14, 1945 - September 13, 2016

It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of their beloved mother Susan "Sue" McClure (71) after a courageous battle with Leukemia. She left this world the same way she lived her life; with humbleness, kindness, and grace; helping all of those around her until the end of her last chapter. She is predeceased by her best friend and husband Joseph "Joe" McClure and her father William "Bill" Tolle. Sue will be deeply missed by her children Peggy "Peg" and Wendy (Maureen) McClure; mother Elizabeth "Liz" Tolle; sister Melissa "Lissa" (Denis) Manning; sister-in-laws Karen McClure and Kathy (Geert) McClure-Meyling; brother-in-laws Timothy "Tim" (Rose), and Patrick "Pat" McClure; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Sue was born in San Bernardino, California, and raised in Laguna Beach, California. It is there she met and married her high school sweetheart Joe. After Sue graduated from Laguna Beach High School, she went on to study Art at the University of Berkley. Sue returned to Laguna and raised her family while successfully running her own art gallery for 20 years. She was a long-standing member of the Sawdust Festival and for more than three decades displayed her beautiful pen-and-inks and watercolors. Sue's love of painting, photography, books, gardening, and traveling inspired all of us. We miss her terribly. The world took a great soul too soon. Take our love with you Mom, and may it bring you peace.

In memoriam, donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated. A celebration of Sue's life will be announced in the upcoming months. Those who wish may leave condolences at:

Sue was always so kind to me growing up in Laguna. I remember most hanging out in her art studio after school and the trips to Anza Borrego. My condolences to Wendy and Peggy.

To Liz and Melissa: I just now read this and I'm shocked and saddened. I just spent time with Sue at my 50th LBHS reunion 2 years ago and I had no idea she was ill. But, of course, she kept that battle to herself -- that was her way. I remember all the family and friends gatherings with the Tolle's and the Myers family over the years when we were growing up together, and I remember her wedding day, too. They were so in love -- and now, they are finally together again. Like Bill, she was such a beautiful soul, and heaven will be a better place now that she is there with both of them. My prayers are with you all.

Dear Wendy.. So sorry for your loss. I heard many times from mutual friends here how much they enjoyed your mom's visits to Ottawa. What a talented and charming woman. Sending love and prayers to you and your family.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Ms McClure (as she was to me) taught me to paint. Every Friday 10 years I was there.
Now I teach art and my kids all know about Ms McClure. She's why we stretch our paper, mix colors-we don't take shortcuts! and turn spilled water into a" happy accident". I'm so grateful and want your family to know I'm many states and many years away from the gallery on PCH but I'm forever grateful for the time (years) I spent with her.
My prayers go out to you and your family.
