Eldora Jane Whatley

1920 - 2018

Lubbock- Eldora Jane Maples Whatley, 95, triumphantly entered the gates of Heaven June 5, 2018. A graveside service will be held in Cisco Tx, Saturday, June 9, at 11:00 am. Born in Houston, Dec.10, 1922; she graduated from San Angelo High School, where she was on the gymnastics team. Jane met her husband Army Air Force Sgt. James Ernest Whatley at the USO Club in San Angelo amidst the perils of WWII. They gave birth to 3 adoring daughters, 2 granddaughters, and 7 great-grandchildren. Celebrating a life of joyful service to our Lord, Jane taught Ladies Bible Classes and 5th grade Sunday School (44 years) at Broadway, Ropesville, Vandelia, Skillman, and Sunset Churches of Christ; and volunteered for countless residents of Dallas nursing homes. In collaboration with dear friend and artist Conny Martin, Jane brought to life the history of the Old Testament building a scripturally-based scale model of the Tabernacle, giving teaching demonstrations across Texas and New Mexico, earning her the nickname of "The Tabernacle Lady". She worked for J. C. Penney's in Lubbock and in Dallas in the Men's Department retiring after 23 years.



The daughter of Ernest Earl Maples and Eldora Angeline Scott Maples (San Angelo), Jane is survived by daughters, Eldora Louise Whatley, Lauran Marie Collins and Jennifer Jane

Whatley; granddaughters, Dawn Green, Cherish Richeda (Rick); great-grandchildren,

McKenna Elston (Connor), Chase and Jett Green; Michaella, Caitlynn (Fiance-Zac

Cabellero), Savannah, and Astyn Richeda; and her brother, Ernest "Bubba" (Bobbie) Maples, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Billie Dannheim.
