Oliver Snow Obituary

Oliver Eugene Snow, Jr. -MACON -Oliver Eugene Snow, Jr., artist, poet, hunter and jogger, died Monday, August 29, 2005. Mr. Snow was the son of Thelma Durden Snow of Soperton, Georgia, and the late Oliver Eugene Snow of Macon. Oliver Snow was a native Georgian. He began his professional career in art while living on the moors of England, painting the English landscapes and devising his own techniques. An avid outdoorsman, he began to paint wildlife early in his career because of what he felt was "the innocence of everything in nature. His later works and collections of British landscapes expressed his longtime love for England, where he and his wife were married. Like the rhythmic words of his poems, Oliver Snow's paintings also speak to the universal language of the heart. His works can be found in many private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad, and have had the distinction of hanging in the American British Embassy, Kensington Palace, and The White House. His portrait of George Whitefield was presented at Gloucester Cathedral. Mr. Snow was an alumnus of Lanier High School and Mercer University. -He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cathy Coxey Snow; a son, Brant Snow; and his mother, Thelma Snow, all of Macon. -In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Wesleyan College, 4760 Forsyth Rd, Macon, GA 31210; the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice. -Hart's Mortuary has charge of arrangements. My deepest condolences to the family of a most wonderful man. I too grew up in my very early years in the "projects" with Snow and I will always cherish the time I spent with Snow.

Snow was truly a man who loved nature, who loved poetry, who loved art, who loved humanity, indeed, a man who loved life and who gave it all he had throughout his life.

I consider it an honor and a privilege to have known and to have been a friend of Snow.

My thoughts and my prayers are with the family and with Snow.

Cathy, you, Brandt, and Oliver's mother are in my thoughts and prayers. I was so shocked for a friend to call me to let me know. As we all know, Oliver was one of a kind like no other and had an influence on all of the lives he touched. He will be missed by all.

As a child growing up in the "projects" I have always felt a quiet and priviledged bond to have experienced an early influence from Snow. Snow stands at the top as the most memorable character and unique human being i have encountered in my life. Having known this man once is never to forget him. My condolences to the family and especially mrs. Snow who lived through the antics of her husband Snow sr. and my father Sonny Jones.

Cathy,

There are no words of sympathy deep enough to let you know how much I care. Nor is there praise great enough to express what you and Oliver have both meant to your friends.

I remember Oliver from Mercer. He used to play Chess with me in the co-op until he got good enough to beat me. I always enjoyed talking to him. He will be missed. His family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
