There really aren't words for this sudden, tragic loss. Alex was one of the kindest, most genuine people I've ever known. His humility and selflessness was exhibited in everything he did in life: school, work, relationships, community service. I never expected to say goodbye to such a dear friend so soon, and I can only imagine how excruciatingly difficult this is for Steve, Mindee, and Jackie. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to you all during this trying time. Alex will live on in our hearts for the rest of time and will continue to watch over us as the Angel he always was on earth. <3

Mr. and Mrs. Rayburn:
Even though I had never met Alex I knew he had to be special when Bishop Daly brought him along with a few other Marin Catholic students to serve at my father's funeral Mass in May of 2007 at St. Hilary in Tiburon. I particularly recognized and remembered Alex because of his athletic ability and camaradie amongst teamates during the couple of MC basketball teamates I attended in 2007. As a 1972 MC and 1976 Santa Clara graduate along with a member of the Marin Catholic Board of Regents for the last 20 years I am extremely proud of Alex's life of love for his MC and the Santa Clara family. He by his example is one who many in the present and future can try to emulate at MC and Santa Clara. I know my parents especially my father also a Santa Clara graduate and generous benefactor to both schools must be very happy other young men and women also MC and Santa Clara graduates like Alex are true disciples of Christ. Rather than working in the "money management business" which Alex aspired to do like my father for over 50 years, through God's graces they are now both managing friends and families through the Holy Spirit toward eternal salvation. Lets us not forget as parents like Mary and Joseph that only through your love for Jesus does such a son like Alex exist. Thank you. You are in our prayers during this time of immense suffering.
Sincerely, Robert McCullough Jr.

His dear friend Alex O'Neill works here at our school, and our hearts go out to all of you during this time of mourning. I cannot make the service unfortunately, but I would still like to extend my most heartfelt condolences. The idea that we can be robbed so quickly of our loved ones is terrible, tragic and unfair. I spent some time with Alex in Europe, and his personality and demeanor will have an effect on me for quite some time. I sincerely hope that you will find peace.

Dear Steve, Mindee, Amanda, Stephanie, Jackie
Alex was truly a light in my life at Santa Clara University. He was a joy to play basketball with, converse in and out of class with, but most importantly just in general. It warms my heart that so many others had similar experiences with him. To say sorry would be an injustice to what you guys have experienced. So I will say Thank You for giving us 26 years of Alex Rayburn. He was and will always be loved. Best wishes and God Bless!
