Jane McCune Obituary

Jane McCune
August 21, 1926 -September 26, 2018
Carmel
With her family around her, Jane Doty McCune passed away due to complications from a stroke on the evening of the twenty-sixth of September, 2018, at Westland House in Monterey California. She was ninety-two years young.
The daughter (and only child) of Bill and Ruth Doty, she was born in Jamaica, New York. She graduated BA from Bates College where she met the love of her life and soon married John Ramey McCune (COL USA-RET) on September 11, 1948 in Hempstead, NY.
She embarked on her life as an Army wife and enjoyed postings to Germany and various places in the US, traveling and making friends where ever she went, winding up in Monterey.
She had a wonderful sense of design and color, was a remarkable cook and hostess and could even make Army housing into a home.
With John's retirement, she became active as a volunteer, bringing her cheerfulness and dedication to many organizations including: Monterey History and Art Association, the Fort Ord Thrift Shop, and from 1988 on, the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP). Active until the end, she was feted the week before her passing for her thirty years of CHOMP volunteer service.
She loved her family and enjoyed her outings with friends to San Francisco: flower shows, cooking, crosswords, reading, her pedicure…
She was preceded in death by her husband John, she is survived by two children and their spouses, Lori McCune (Ronald) Rieser of Carmel, CA and William David (Marilyn) McCune of Tehachapi, CA; grandchildren Janie, Max, Michael, and three great-grandchildren (Max and Anna) Sebastian, Teddy and Penny (her "little people").
Jane chose cremation and requested no memorial service.
Contributions in Jane's memory may be made to CHOMP.
