ADINA JICK Obituary

JICK--Adina Rachel. Adina Rachel Jick, of Astoria, NY, 29 years old, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2022, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the much beloved wife of Noah Pardo; the cherished daughter of Todd D. Jick of New York, NY and Rose Zoltek-Jick of Newton, MA; and adored sister of Zoe Jick Fertik of Palo Alto, CA. Wise beyond her years, Adina was her family's source of counsel. She offered keen insights and caring advice. Adina's professional pursuits in psychology were enhancements of her natural skills: she was always willing to listen to people's life stories, with all their ups and downs. Adina was just beginning her career, but she worked as a crisis counselor for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence and completed an externship working as a counselor for students at Brooklyn College. She was completing a geriatric counseling externship when she took ill. Adina was much loved and will be painfully missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing her. She connected to people young and old, friends and strangers, family near and far. She never looked beyond you to see who was around the corner. Everyone has a "story" about knowing Adina, and deep impressions of her spirit and goodness will endure. Adina will be lovingly remembered for her contagious smile; her soulful brown eyes; her sharp wit; her interest in food, travel and new experiences; her connection to Israel; her love of storytelling, reading memoirs and binging TV; Lamb Chop; her love of JazzFest and Van Morrison; her organizational and decorating prowess; her ability to shop for herself and others; and her keen sense of style. Adina loved her times in the Berkshires - especially Goose Pond, James Taylor at Tanglewood, and Main Street in Great Barrington. Adina touched countless friends with whom she stayed close throughout her life: Boston childhood friends from The Rashi School; best girlfriends from Beaver Country Day School; friends from NFTY, Camp Eisner and EIE; classmates and sorority sisters from Barnard College '14; colleagues at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, where she was halfway through the completion of a Doctor in Psychology (PsyD), and her and Noah's close friends living in New York. Her father's Columbia Business School colleagues and students also mourn Adina. All those who knew Adina were touched by her, and forever changed. In addition to her immediate family, Adina is survived by Todd's wife, Wendy Ehrlich; Zoe's husband Michael Fertik; Noah's mother, Estelle Saltiel; Noah's brother and sister-in-law, Dustin Pardo and Beth Rutstein, and their son, Gabriel. Adina was beloved by her Uncle Dan and Aunt Elizabeth Jick, cousins Jamie and Matt Relle, Josh and Jeremy Jick; Uncle Theo Jick, and of blessed memory, Uncle Andy Jick. Adina is also survived by her beloved great-uncle Arnold Kerner (100 years old), great-aunt Sophie Zloto and her two sons Michel and Richard of Paris, France, Anat Harpaz and her family in Israel, cousins Rita Vine and Arnie Lipsey of Toronto, Taffy Benjamin of New York, and Weinreich cousins across the globe. Adina's grandparents, of blessed memory, were Dorothy and Adam Zoltek, of Toronto, and Millicent and Leon Jick, of Chestnut Hill, MA. We are heartbroken. We will never get over the loss of our Adina and will carry her in our hearts forever. The family is collecting stories, tributes and photos/videos of Adina and ask that they be forwarded to memoriesofadina@ gmail.com In lieu of flowers, to honor Adina's memory, donations may be made to The Rashi School to support Mitzvah Makers, an inter-genera-tional program in which Adina participated: www.rashi.org/donate and for more information: [email protected] The funeral was held on February 14, 2022, at Temple Beth Avodah, Newton, MA.

Adina Jick joined us her at Zucker Hillside Geriatric Clinic as a psychology extern Fall 2020 but had to take medical leave at the end of April 2021. She was such a lovely person and an outstanding clinician. Her absence will be felt in many circles. The Gero psychology field itself has lost out on a real Gem.

One of her patients captured her specialness when she said to the covering therapist back in April:

"In all the years I've been in therapy, I've never had a connection as I do with Adina. Don't know why, but she 'gets' me, nuttiness and all."

From another staff person -GI:
Adina co-led a weekly group with me for at least 6 months; the patients loved her and I thought she was such a terrific clinician-in-the-making, and so bright, so lovely. I was so fond of her.

As many have said, this is a heart-breaking loss - such a humane, warm, supportive, charming and very bright person, who had the right values and was going to make this world a better place (well, she did make the world a better place while she was with us, and maybe we can carry the torch forward).

From staff person -HK: This is a tragedy on so many levels- she was a beautiful human, with wit, kindness and grace. I had reached out to her to work with someone who was dealing with PTSD due to medical issues. This person was not necessarily psychologically minded initially but by the 2nd session was in love! It was very difficult for her to reconnect to another therapist, telling me "I hit it out of the park the 1st time"

The staff at Zucker Hillside are grateful that our paths crossed with such a lovely spirit and send you our condolences.

Sending love and condolences to Adina's family and friends. Rest in peace Adina, thank you so much for always helping me with my stats homework - I am hopeless at it! Psychology has lost someone who would have been an invaluable addition to the field. Ferkauf misses you dearly.

I wanted to offer my heartfelt condolences. I taught Adina math at 4th grade at The Rashi School. Her bright eyes, smile and fun spirit are still so clear in my mind. I am so sorry to hear that this loss has come way too early in life. Sending you all my thoughts. May her memory be for a blessing, and may we all enjoy life the way Adina clearly did.

So very sad to learn Adina's death. Leon and Millicent were close friends and I remember fondly of the many happy ties we were together and the Jick family. Todd and Rose, my heart goes out to you,

I was lucky enough to be one of Adina's supervisors at Brooklyn College so I got to know her pretty well. I remember her quick mind, her commitment to learning and helping her clients as well as long, Friday afternoon conversations about food, travel, and dogs. She was a joy to know and to work with. May her memory be a blessing.

Adina was such an integral part of our cohort at Ferkauf. Her warmth, wit, and curiosity were ever-present. I personally loved the way she was able to challenge us to think more deeply and ask more questions. She always moved closer to challenges and complexity, while remaining a source of comfort and stability for so many. We have deeply missed her presence at school and I will remember all that she added to my life and those at Ferkauf.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

Sending condolences from Jerusalem. I was her 11th grade English teacher during her semester at EIE High School in Israel. I have just reread all the essays she submitted during the course -- a talented writer and a deeply caring human being. May her memory be a blessing.

To Rose, Todd, and the entire Jick family...It truly is heart breaking to hear about the loss of Adina. Our family sends you our love and condolences! The only comfort, if there is one, is knowing what beautiful soul she was and that Adina´s memory will be a blessing to all those who knew and loved her.

Adina was a very special person. She made me smile and laugh with her brutal honesty and wit. She named me "Mama-E" which all the girls now call me. She gave so much of herself to others and made her life meaningful, an inspiration to all of us. She was a wonderful friend to our Steph and we were so lucky to know her. I will carry Adina in my heart, always. Her memory is indeed a blessing to all of us who knew and loved her.
