ALBERTA COOK Obituary


ALBERTA G. COOK, 92, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Lutheran Life Villages, Pine Valley. Born Jan. 22, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Ernest F. and Anna (Schar-merloh) Bulte-meyer and lived most of her life in Fort Wayne. She married Elmer H. Cook in 1947, he preceded her in death. She graduated from Central High School in 1939 and was a member of the National Honor Society, Year Book, studied Journalism, and was the school Newspaper Editor. She worked for G.E. as an Executive Secretary, before enlisting in the WAVES of the United States Navy during World War II. She was sent for training in New York City, where she attended Hunter College. She also attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, Okla., and was stationed in Washington D.C., assigned to Navy Intelligence Bureau of Ships. She worked with the Joint Task Force One Atomic Bomb Test, qualifying for the rank of 2nd class Yeoman. She attended Indiana University of Fort Wayne, and the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., before returning to Fort Wayne to work as a Billing Secretary for the Dana Corp. She enjoyed travel, reading, crosswords, nature, handwork, history, and genealogy. She was a Den Mother, assisted with Girl Scouts, and Homeroom Mother. As a lifelong member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, she served with the Ladies Aid Society, Secretary of the LWML, Lutheran Home Auxiliary, Federation of Lutheran Women, 55 Club, and Friends. She served on the High School Reunion Committee and Alumni Association. She held memberships with the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Allen County Historical Society, Smithsonian Institute, Tiverton RI Historical Society, Battle of Normandy Foundation, Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation, Women in Military Service for America, and American Legion, Lincoln Post 82. Her children are grateful for her love and service to God, country and family. "Many thanks to the staff at Lutheran Life Villages for their loving care of our dear Mother." She is survived by children, Gary (Susan) Cook and their children, Riley, Katharine and Madeline, all of Melbourne, Australia, E. Edward Cook of Fort Wayne and his children, Zachary, Angelina and Audrey, and Cheryl Cook of Livonia, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Juanita (Cook) Arnold, Phyllis (Cook) Itt, and Ruby (Sohn) Bultemeyer, all of Fort Wayne, Eunice (Thompson) Cook of Pheonix, Ariz., Lucretia (Cook) Blanchard Hunt of Churubusco, and Ruth Ann (Bentz) Bultemeyer Winget of New Haven; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by daughter, Janice; and siblings, Esther (Bultemeyer) Wiesjahn, Ralph, Calvin, Franklin, Raymond, and Anna Margaret Bultemeyer, all of Fort Wayne. Funeral service is 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Roy C. Olsen officiating. Calling also from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday Nov. 22, 2013 at the funeral home, with a prayer service starting at 8 p.m. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne, Ind.
