Thomas L. Baumgartner

Thomas L. "Tom" Baumgartner, 88, passed away at Park Place Senior Living, surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 15, 2026, Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Tom was the son of the late Willis and Alice (Taylor) Baumgartner. Tom graduated from South Side High School, where he met the love of his life, Judy Lepper. The two were married in Fort Wayne on September 9, 1961, beginning a loving and devoted marriage that spanned more than six decades. He went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Ball State University and graduated from School of Banking in Madison, WI. Tom dedicated much of his professional life to Fort Wayne National Bank, where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for over 25 years. Throughout his career, Tom was deeply invested in the Fort Wayne community. He generously gave his time and leadership while serving on the boards of United Way, Turnstone, Lutheran Hospital and the Lutheran Foundation, CTN, and Concordia Lutheran High School, where he also served as Co-Chair of their auction. Tom was a faithful member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and was a Rotarian. Beyond his professional and community commitments, Tom treasured time with his family. He was actively involved in his daughters' lives and their school activities. Many cherished memories were made at the family's lake home at Lake George, where Tom especially enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing tennis. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Judy Baumgartner; daughters, Heidi (Tim) Altom and Kristin (Jeff) Smith; and grandchildren, Ellie Altom, Harrison Smith, Landon Smith, Allison Smith along with 4 nieces and 4 nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Madelyn Drew, and siblings, Barbara Snyder, William Baumgartner, John Baumgartner, and Jim Baumgartner.

Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1505 Bethany Lane, with calling from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Turnstone, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, or Concordia Lutheran High School.
