Angelita Rosal Obituary

Angelita "Nene" Apostol Rosal peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, in New Orleans, LA, at the age of 83. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio "Anton" Llanes Rosal, who passed away in 2005 post Hurricane Katrina; loving mother of Anthony "Tony" Rosal, of Jefferson, LA, and Maria "Margot" Rosal Roberts of Frisco, TX; endearing mother-in-law to Larry D. Roberts of Frisco, TX; proud and doting grandmother "Lola" of Alisa Roberts; daughter of the late Jose P. and Angela R. Apostol; sister of the late Jose, Jr., Bernabe, Romeo, and Matias Apostol. She is also survived by her brother-in- law, Dr. Nicholas "Charito" Rosal, many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Angelita was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. She received her Bachelor of Arts at the University of the Philippines in Quezon City, Philippines. She worked for the Philippine government and moved to New Orleans in 1975 with her family to fulfill her assignment as an Officer for the Philippine Consulate, located in what was formerly known as the International Trade Mart on Canal Street in downtown New Orleans. After retiring from the Consulate, she enjoyed subsequent careers working at Werlein's for Music as an administrative assistant to Mrs. Bitsie Werlein Mouton, Tulane University Library, Historic New Orleans Collection, and retired from Jefferson Parish Library's Special Collections in 2012. Fluent in French with a love and passion for Louisiana history, she was tasked with translating and compiling papers for the 1993 Historic New Orleans Collection's publication, "A Guide to the Papers of Pierre Clement Laussat, Napoleon's Prefect for the Colony of Louisiana and of General Claude Perrin Victor". She was an avid reader and enjoyed attending cultural events. In 2013, Angelita fulfilled her lifelong dream of watching the Fourteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Ft. Worth, TX. Angelita will be fondly remembered for playing classical piano duets at parties with Anton, who played the violin, her fierce independence, love of oyster po-boys, French pastries, antique hunting in the French Quarter and on Magazine Street and savoring Filipino cuisine such as pinakbet and crispy pata. She also enjoyed traveling to California and Texas to watch her "Apo", Alisa's, ballet performances. Following a private family visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend Mass at 11 am CST on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Leitz-Eagan Chapel, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA. A brief graveside blessing will immediately follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, 5100 Ponchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. We understand that due to the Covid pandemic, many dear family and friends will be unable to attend but will be with us in spirit. We appreciate your love, thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the National Shrine of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos at Seelos.org and/or The Cliburn at Cliburn.org.
