Ann Lamphere Obituary

R. Ann Lamphere
July 3, 1927 - November 18, 2017
R. Ann Lamphere, 90, passed away on November 18, 2017, at HopeWest Hospice.
She was born Rosemary in the small town of North Branch, Michigan, and was the only child of James Damascus and Myrtle Gaynor. As an adult, she changed her name from Rosemary to Ann. She was married to Lee Lamphere from 1948 until his death in 1998, one day after their 50th anniversary. As a young couple, they added their son, Kyle, and daughter, Susan, to their family, and were surprised a number of years later by the arrival of their second daughter, Ann Marie. They moved to Grand Junction in 1972.
An avid student with a quick mind, Ann studied biology in college, and it remained a keen interest throughout her life. She was the office manager for a radiologist and worked for several attorneys before retiring. She loved to talk to people and could remember faces for years.
After retiring, she volunteered many hours at a thrift store which benefitted education, and she tutored math to elementary students. She also volunteered many hours of sewing to what was then Mesa State College Theatre Department.
The company of pets was always very important to her, including her first dog, Doc; her beloved Cocker Spaniel, Amber; her dear English Setter, Jacques; her best friend Blue Heelers, Saffie and Luci; and her grandbaby Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Jacques and Heidi, in addition to many others. Cats were also in numerous supply and rarely was the house without one...or more. She often said she had always dreamed of taking care of animals after she retired, and she was able to fulfill that dream for many years. May she be greeted in heaven by Doc and Amber and all the many others who loved her and whom she loved dearly.
Her remaining family includes her son, Kyle Lamphere of Fruita; her daughter, Susan Sechrist (David) of Aurora; her daughter, Ann Marie Lamphere of Grand Junction; three grandsons, Anthony, David, and Joseph, and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Saturday December 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to CLAWS of Grand Junction, Roice-Hurst Humane Society, or HopeWest Hospice.
