Anne Robertson

Anne Charlotte Robertson died September 15 at the Oak Knoll Health Care Center in Framingham after a year-long battle with cancer. A native of Columbus Ohio, she lived in Framingham the past 30 years. Her schooling included a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude in Art and Psychology, from the University of Massachusetts at Boston, and a Master of Fine Arts with honors in Filmmaking, from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. She worked at Wellesley Free Library , and later with the US Census. She began making films in 1976 and was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for film making in 2001. Her award-winning films were shown in the U.S. and Europe. They included titles such as the decades-long Diary, Apologies, Snooze Alarm and Melon Patches and will be archived at the Harvard Film Archive. Her avocation was organic gardening and she kept multiple plots at the Framingham Community Garden where she donated vegetables to homeless shelters. She canned and pickled yearly, giving to families, friends, and those in need. She loved all living things, and surrounded herself with plants and animals. She is survived by her brother Jeffrey, his wife Rebecca, sister Ellen Hacker and by her best friend Toni Treadway: four nieces and nephews, Renate, Michael, and Lucinda Robertson, and Andrew White. She was predeceased by her parents Robbie and June Robertson and by her brother Andy and niece Emily. The family extends thanks to the Metrowest Cancer Care Center which took such good care of Anne during her illness. There will be a memorial service on September 29th, at 1 pm at the First Parish Church in Framingham, followed by a brief graveside service. All are invited to Scott Hall after the service to celebrate her life. A retrospective of her work is planned for a later date.
