Anthony Fatone Obituary

Norwich - Anthony N. Fatone, 76, of Norwich, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2025. He was born in Norwich, March 10, 1949, to the late Nicola and Catherine (Lamperelli) Fatone. He also leaves behind two beloved brothers, Joseph and Paul; as well as adored nieces and cherished cousins. Anthony is predeceased by numerous aunts and uncles.

He graduated from St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, and went on to attend St. Leo College in St. Leo, Fla. After school, he returned to his hometown Norwich, where he became a member of the National Guard during the Vietnam conflict. Anthony was proud to train, serve and fulfill his duties for the National Guard.

During that time, he entered the family business as a second-generation family owner. He began his career at Shetucket Plumbing Supply during the spring of 1968. He was the manager of the Plainfield location for many years. He enjoyed working with his father, Nicola Fatone and brothers, Joseph and Paul. Shetucket grew from a single plumbing and heating wholesale supply location to a nine-location business during his lifetime career. Anthony had a manly approach to his various roles at Shetucket Supply. Signs of strength and decisiveness were his business traits. During his career he welcomed other family members to the business, a cousin, Kenneth Charles, whom he worked alongside and his niece, Susan Soderberg, who would be the third generation to the family business. The Fatone family business, Shetucket Supply was known locally for their deep roots in the community and being tied into the social fabric of Southeastern Connecticut. The business was sold in 2007, and Anthony semi-retired for several years until his full retirement in 2014.

Anthony is survived by his daughter Leandra Fatone; and his grandson Logan; as well as the love of his life, Sarah Ayer.

Anthony had a passion for fast sports cars, cigars, golf, fine wine and good food. He had a big heart; and he lived his life to the fullest. He will be remembered for his generosity. He was "Big Ant" or "Ant" to those closest to him - who loved him for his unwavering convictions and larger than life personality. His memory will be cherished forever.

Calling hours for Anthony will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 9, at the Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, at the Cathedral of St. Patrick, 213 Broadway, Norwich. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Loved it when I would see Anthony stop for coffee at "Ma's" Central Soda Shoppe. Funny story= My wife & I were heading North on I91 to our vacation spot in Bethel, Maine. While in bumper to bumper traffic approaching a toll plaza we kept seeing this fairly large plume of smoke coming from one of the cars ahead in the next lane to ours. When we caught up to it we saw Anthony puffing on one of his wonderful smelling cigars, radio blaring. A toot on the horn & there was Anthony enjoying the ride in his hot, white Ford Mustang!
Will miss you Ant. Peace.

Anthony loved good times, good food, good wine, and a good cigar! Who else could bring new meaning to Ground Hogs Day festivities!
We have many fond memories over the years. We will forever be grateful for the generosity that the Fatones extended to us.
We send our fondest condolences to Leandra, Logan, Sarah and the entire Fatone family.

Anthony always brought a smile. He was a man of many talents and so generous. He did the beautiful calligraphy for our wedding invitations. I enjoyed riding bikes out to Misquamicut and back with him. Summers were a blast when dropping in to his Seaside parties. Such a great sense of humor and constantly laughing. So glad I knew him.

A truly sad time for all his family and friends. A wonderful generous man with such strong passions. Big heart and a big laugh. Loved early morning golf, fast cars, crafted cigars, travel, story telling, good wine, and fine Italian cuisine. Most importantly he naturally related to people. He always had a sincere interest in what other people were doing or feeling. Terrific company. So amusing .... with a timely sense of humor. He will missed ....but never forgotten. Proud to call "Ant" my friend. Our condolences to all his loved ones..... The Gilluly family.
