Audrey Potts Obituary

Audrey Krull Potts
October 17, 1930 - February 28, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - Mrs. Potts, 91, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on February 28, 2022. She was born on October 17, 1930 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Raymond and Gertrude Krull.
Mrs. Potts retired from the American Red Cross in 1995 after 21 years of service as a secretary in the Greater Carolinas Chapter. In the 1950's, she boldly moved from Buffalo to New York City to work for National Gypsum. As a civil servant working overseas in France, she met and married a handsome Air Force man from South Carolina, Heyward Potts. Heyward's work in the military took them to Germany, France, Japan and Hawaii. Their children were born in Japan, Hawaii and New Jersey. They were married for 47 years before his passing in 2005. He was the love of her life.
Audrey was a longtime dedicated parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She was a devoted member of St. Vincent's Respect Life Committee. She proudly volunteered with MiraVia (formerly Room at the Inn) for over 20 years. Audrey was a devout Catholic who regularly participated in Perpetual Adoration at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church. She devoted her time, talent and treasure to being a champion for the unborn. Her hobbies and interests included gardening, recycling, singing in the church choir, NFL football (Buffalo Bills), a love of animals, assisting with church projects and giving to numerous charities. Audrey was selfless, humble, sweet, thoughtful, generous, faithful, genuine and kind - a true lady.
She is survived by her large family: sons, David and wife Carol of York, SC, Stephen and girlfriend Orrie Bowes of Salisbury; daughters, Ruth Potts of Charlotte, Lisa Hiner and husband Jimmy, of Charlotte; seven grandchildren: Jackie (Andy) Gianelli of Indian Trail, Crystal (Lee) Owens of Lake Wylie, SC, Christian (Meghan) Potts of Monroe, Ryan Potts (girlfriend Sierra) of Lake Wylie, SC, Laila, Hana and Safia Kaouk of Waxhaw; five great-grandchildren: Ethan and Mya Owens, Brooklyn and Dawson Gianelli and Audrey N. Potts; brother, Curt (Susie) Weber of Buffalo, NY; sister, Pam (Tom) Lawless of Town of Tonawanda, NY; sister-in-law, Alice Baker of Lancaster, SC; sister-in-law, Cathy (Wally) French of Indian Land, SC; sister-in-law, Nancy Potts, of York, SC; and brother-in-law, Bruce (Sue) Potts of Fort Mill, SC.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Heyward D. Potts, Jr.; parents, Raymond and Gertrude Krull; beloved stepfather, Raymond Weber; her in-laws, Alice Starr Potts and Heyward D. Potts, Sr.; a daughter, Leslie Potts; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (Ken) Krohn; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne (Sutton) Epps; brother-in-law, Don Potts; and brother-in-law, Bill Baker.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 pm Friday, March 4, 2022 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6028 Old Reid Rd., Charlotte. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday evening at McEwen Funeral Home, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte.
