Augustin Perez Jr.

Augustin Perez, Jr., age 94, a member of the Greatest Generation, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021 in Covington, Louisiana, with his loving children by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife of 58 years, Shirley Merrigan Perez. He was the father of Susan Perez Hopkins (Jerry, who is deceased), Sid Perez (Karen), Patricia Perez Ladut (Paul), Michael Perez, Sr. (Arlene), Leslie Perez Montgomery (Gary), Merrian Perez (Stone), Celeste Perez Mackenroth (Joe) and Jeffrey Augustin Perez (Cheryl), 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and his sister in-law, Kathleen Merrigan Schuster. A native of New Orleans, and longtime Metairie resident, Augustin proudly served the United States Marine Corps 6th Division during World II in the Pacific Theater. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church, and St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was a former member of the Krewe of Thoth, Hilltoppers, and The Dragons. Augustin spent 70 years in his career as a Certified Dental Technician as owner of Perez Dental Laboratory. The family would like to thank the staff of Notre Dame Hospice for their loving care. They would also like to thank Dr. Kiran Zaveri and Dr. Richard Airhart for their many years of excellent medical care. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 631 State Street, New Orleans, Louisiana at 12:00 pm. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Interment will immediately follow at Hope Mausoleum, 4841 Canal St., New Orleans, Louisiana.
