Barbara Bohnstedt-Thorn Obituary

Barbara K. (Watson, Thorn) Bohnstedt-Thorn, 74, of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away on February 25, 2025, peacefully at home with her loved ones by her side. She was born on July 23,1950 in Fort Wayne to Evelyn Pearl (Strupp) and Glenn Delbert Watson.

She graduated in 1967 from Huntington County Community High School in Huntington, Ind. She received her Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology from Lutheran School of Radiology Technicians in 1968, and Bachelor's Degree in Health Education from Indiana University Indianapolis.

Barb started her career at Van Wert Hospital in Van Wert, Ohio and would spend 32 years as a Radiologic Technologist at Parkview Hospital where it was her goal to make each of her patients smile.

Barb married Kris Bohnstedt on October 6, 1996 in Kris's parent's backyard on a beautiful sunny day before family, friends and God. They legally wed on July 26, 2014 in Iowa and changed their names to Bohnstedt-Thorn.

Barb loved, collected and visited all the pandas in the United States as of 2024. She never met a dog or cat that didn't love her. She enjoyed traveling with her family most recently introducing her Zac, Maggie and Dryzten to Hawaii in June of 2024; passing down the legacy Kris's parents passed down to them. Barb was an active member of Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren where she and Kris were immediately, and henceforth, accepted and affirmed.

She is survived by her wife Kristine Bohnstedt-Thorn; her only son, Zac (Maggie) Thorn of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; grandchildren Milo (Mal) Cummins of Chicago, Ill. and Dryzten Thorn also of Murfreesboro.

I remember meeting Barb thru the Bonhnstedt family reunions. Albert was so proud of Barb and Kris and announced their marriage with pride. Barb attracted the family with her winning personality and joyful smile. I remember when she fell during one reunion and Barney Farris, cousin, carried her to her car where Kris rushed her to the hospital with a broken leg. Kris never left her side while she healed. Barb shared with me how much Beacon Heights meant to her and Kris with their loving acceptance of them as a couple and a lover of Jesus Christ. I will miss her face at the next reunion as I considered her a friend. And I know I will see her in the great reunion in Heaven. Kris, my heart goes out to you, and I hope you receive comfort from the many memories you and Barb made together.
