Barbara Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 31, 2014.
Barbara Jean Bryant Smith was born on August 3, 1939 in Talbotton, GA to the late J. C. and Cora Bryant.

Barbara obtained her education within the Talbot County Public School System, graduating from Central High School. She furthered her education by attending nursing school and became a Nurses' Assistant. Barbara was employed by the Hamby Family.

"Bobbie Jean" as she was affectionately known , accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age and continued her Christian walk at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Walter Phillips, Sr., where she faithfully served on the Senior Choir, Pastor's Aide Ministry and the Sisterhood Ministry. She greatly enjoyed and found much pleasure in listening to some good 'ole' gospel music. As we look at the second pew, we will always be reminded of your spirit and the love you had for everyone.

Barbara was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor; she had a passionate love for life. She had a fun loving character and was always cracking jokes. Her loving smile and presence will be missed. Everyone had to go to "Barbara Smith's house" to eat.

Now, the days were at hand that God, in His infinite wisdom, would beckon her home. That day came on Sunday, December 28, 2014, when she completed her earthly journey and went to rest in God's care. Barbara was everyone's doctor. If you had and illness, she had a homeopathic remedy for you. She was always upbeat for she knew that nothing could not invade her soul and rob her of the joy she had inside. She left us suddenly, but her memories will be forever etched in the heart of those who loved her dearly, .

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gyles Smith and a daughter, Sheba Ford.

Her loved ones remaining to cherish her precious memory and honor her spirit are: one son: Jeffrey (Lynnene) Smith, Sr., of Huntsville, AL; one daughter, Marjorie Harden, Columbus, GA; one brother: Alphonzie Bryant, Box Spring, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Taneka Berry, Crystal Robinson, Marquita Harden, and Brandon Harden all of Columbus, GA and Jeffrey (LaKendra) Smith, Jr., Tyler Smith and Tiphany Ford of Huntsville, AL. Ten great-grandchildren: Marcus McPhearson, Uriah McPhearson, A'yana Berry, Keundra Weaver, Jordyn Taylor, Kamari Lipscomb, and Morgyn Harden of Columbus, GA and Skyler Flowers, Karter Smith and Karsyn Smith of Huntsville, AL; one son-in-law: Dudley Harden; special "phone buddies": Betty Jean Harmon and Barbara Ann "Barb" Johnson. a host of nieces, nephews, and other relative and friends and her beloved church family.

This was my mother in-law but I like to think of her as my mother, my friend, my teacher. I will miss the phone calls every week and your laughter. I find comfort in knowing that you are resting with the Lord and I know he makes no mistakes. We as a family will push forward because we know that is what you would want for us to do. You are forever in my heart.#gonebutnotforgotten

The Simmons family in Midway will miss Barbara. She met so much to us with the joy she brought. We know God does not make any mistake so we will always keep that smile and sense of humor she had in our memory.

I am deeply sadden to learn of Barbara's transition. She was kind and gentle, her presence would always light up the room/church and her affectionate smile was contagious. We will mourn her departure but we will Never forger her presence. Family be of good cheer, although she's absent from her earthly body, she's now present with God in her New Home. My prayers are that God will Comfort the family & friends.

To The Family of Sis. Smith,

When you think of her smile, may you be reminded of all the wonderful times you're shared.
When you talk about the kind of person she was, may you feel prouder than ever.
And when you hear all the stories people tell about her may it bring an even richer understanding of how much your mom meant to everyone.

With Sympathy,
Yolanda

To the Family of Barbara Smith:
She was a special lady, I enjoyed her friendship! When she came to visit me last year in Florida we had a wonderful time, and all the fun and memories we shared will always be special in my heart. On last Monday (Dec 22) Barbara called me we chat for a minute and she told me she would call me back, but time did not permit her to do so, this has left me with a broken heart but, I know we will talk again in Heaven where she will be waiting when I get there. She was truly a loving Sister, sleep on Barbara and Take your rest we loved you but God loved you best.

Your Friend,
