Barbara Wilson Obituary

Barbara Smith Wight Wilson, age 92, of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2020. She was born in West Palm Beach on August 3, 1928 to the late Jugle Everett and Margaret Trucks Smith.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by daughter Kathleen Hall of Fleming Island, FL; son Robert Howard (Ellen) Wight, Jr; daughter Lynn Wilson Silvers, and stepson Harold Wilson, all of West Palm Beach; and, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved and admired her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Howard Wight in 1959. Left to raise two young children Kathleen and Howard, she was an unwavering inspiration to both of them then and her entire life. Tragically losing her husband, she amazingly balanced working and providing for her young family. Caring and teaching life values at home to Kathleen and Howard would become the core values that the two of them now cherish and strive to pass on to their children and grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her second husband Edward Wilson. They were married for 49 years until his death in 2010. In 1963, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter Lynn. Barbara continued the loving and caring spirit with Lynn that she started with Kathleen and Howard. Lynn was an angel to our mother in the waning years of her life being the primary caregiver for her needs and was truly her "best friend".
She was also preceded in death by her brother Jugle E. Smith, Jr. and stepson Marshall A. Wilson.
Barbara was a lifelong "native" resident of West Palm Beach and a 1946 graduate of Palm Beach High School. She cherished her many longtime friends which she stayed close to her entire life.
Many memories and life-long friends were also made on the multiple trips that she and Ed made over the years. They literally traveled the world together! A large number of the trips were to Elderhostel destinations, where they not only enjoyed the venue, but also enjoyed learning together about the local history of each destination in a classroom setting.
She was an active lifetime member of The First Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches downtown (now the Harriet Himmel Theatre at Rosemary Square); and when the church moved to Brandywine Road in West Palm Beach. She was also an active member of the Coterie Club of the Palm Beaches and PEO Chapter J. Until September of this year, Barbara was healthy and doing remarkably well. She was able to enjoy life, family and friends.
We are truly thankful for the compassionate, quality and loving assistance provided by the four wonderful ladies, Minnette, Devena, Nicola and Shenika who cared for her. We are also grateful for the assistance provided by Trustbridge Hospice Foundation, helping to make her final days calm and peaceful.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations may be made to Trustbridge Hospice Foundation via website (trustbridgefoundation.org); Meals on Wheels Palm Beach via website (mealsonwheelsamerica.org); or a charity of your choice in her name.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 6411 Parker Ave, West Palm Beach, FL 33405 on December 12, 2020 at 1:00PM. Jordan Smith, Pastor at Memorial Presbyterian Church in West Palm Beach will be officiating the service.
