Damn. I knew Barney from circa '84 or so when he asked if I'd be part of his production of Pippin. It remains one of the highlights of my life to this day. RIP. Dang....

Barney was the most imaginative choral director I ever had the pleasure to sing with. He led with passion, displayed endless patience with singers and musicians, and always had a smile on his face. His compassion for people and his love of music will not be seen again on this peninsula for years to come. Thank you, Barney for all you taught me. Pauline Herlien

Barney was such a talented and gentle soul whose humble personna and smile made him an instant friend to all whom he came into contact as he flitted from one engagement to another. His ability to quickly size up the venue and audience and adapt on the fly was a gift as he dealt with performers of all levels.
Barney was the pianist at the 11:15 am Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Carmel Valley for 34 years even though he lived in PG. That's dedication! His talents and creativity greated aided in the choir's ability to help all in attendance appreciate the words and meaning of each service, truly a gift. Barney developed a loving bond with all of us and went beyond the call when practicing in his spare time to help cantors and others achieve their goals.
Having watched many of his plays and productions at various venues, I could only marvel at his wide ranging abilities, whether it be a large orchestra and dozens of actors or a two person play where he played the piano, sang, cracked jokes, and maybe even danced a little.
In the last few years, my wife and I had dinner several times with Barney and got to know him even better. These times cemented his status as an angel, a gentle soul whom I will always admire.

I played piano in the pit orchestras for Gypsy and Jesus Christ Superstar at MPC in the 70s. I learned so much from Barney and had so much fun. His energy and devotion to music will truly be missed.

Barney, what an incredible joy you were to work with. So supportive to those, especially me, with no musical talents ! Your smile always made me happy. What a wonderful team everyone was back in your first days at MPC. Friendships that have lasted almost 50 years. You will always be my friend, always be my hero and I will always think of you as my angel. Love you.

I worked with Barney when I was in Annie and I will always remember his sense of humour and how he would just literally fly into rehearsal and worked so quickly and then he would be off to his next engagement. Such a pleasure to work with and such a loss for the community. Thank you Barney even if it was a brief moment of time Rest In Peace.

Barney, my friend,
I'll never forget you in the band for Grease. Morgan Stock directed. It was my first musical and you rocked the house with Tom Ayres and a cast of young, hot and randy actors! You were always encouraging and so generous with each and everyone of us!
Big love, deep dreams and wide wide wings dear one.❤

Barney was such a tender, encouraging presence in my life, and I am so grateful for the times we shared together at Ariel Theatrical and MPC. His mark is indeed long-lasting: There are several of us who will carry on his legacy of kindness, encouragement, and genuine love for music and theatre.
Thanks, Barney. Love you. --Talleri--
